Rivers of Hell

I've been waiting for this!  Two renowned LEGO artists, Mihai Marius Mihu and Tyler Halliwell have joined forces to create a stunning collaboration entitled Rivers of Hell.

"Eight months ago we began to share ideas and develop a visual style representative of the horrors of Hell. Concepts for each of the rivers were created by Mihai, concepts grounded in Greek Mythology yet open to our own creative interpretation. As the months went by we carefully decided upon the final designs for Acheron, Cocytus, Lethe, Phlegethon, and Styx."

Their goal from the outset was to create something both horrifying and beautiful.  They have clearly accomplished that.  I just hope another project is already in the works!

'32 Ford

It's a hotrody (is that a word?) morning here at BrickNerd. The king of chrome bricksonwheels is back with another stunning and beautiful hotrod. The paint scheme and balance of chrome to color really appeals to me. I've always thought earth tone cars are the most difficult to get right, but the most gorgeous when they nail it. This one nails it.

Dark Omen

Behold LinoM's spectacular submission for LUGnuts' 8th birthday challenge. With a lowered stance, sideways hood, chopped roof and slotted fenders it's got an aggressive hotrod look. But that color scheme and inclusion of the guitar definitely gives this thing a more dark overtone. This looks like a ride The Master from Manos Hands of Fate would roll in (you'll probably have to look that one up, you're welcome).

Chroble Shelves

View fullsize

Have you noticed the awesome Walnut Minifigure shelves on my set? Well, they're totally cool, super high quality and you (or someone you love, the holidays are upon us you know) need some. And you're in luck because the fine folks at Chroble have a promotion going that will make sure your new shelves have a nice new fig to display. Right now they're giving away a free series 14 Minifigure with every shelf you order! Order a shelf, get a fig, order four shelves, get four figs. Plus right now if you use the coupon code BRICKNERD20 you'll get 20% off your order. Hurry the code is only good until Dec 8th!

It's On!

Yes ladies and gentledorks, it's Iron Builder time again! This round pits veteran cmaddison against first-timer retinence, and it's going to be good. Chris Maddison has drawn first blood, but the battle will rage on for a month, so there's still plenty time to bleed. Sit back and enjoy LEGO fans.

Kerak Telor Cart

I've never tasted Kerak Telor (ok, to be honest I've never even heard of Kerak Telor) but after hearing the description, it sounds like it would be totally my speed (minus the shallots perhaps). And this traditional cart MOC by KOSbricks makes me even more fascinated and curious.

Where Do You Store Your Gold Bricks?

This is really cool. builder JK Brickworks has created a working combination safe out of our favorite bricks. If you've ever wondered about how combination safes work, or just needed a nice secure place to store your gold brick, check out this fantastic MOC and video.

The Wall

This is truly epic. It's really hard to gauge the scale of this MOC by UK LEGO and history buffs Brick to the Past, unless you really scrutinize it. It's actually over 16 square meters in size! That's like the size of a decent bedroom. Or to get a better idea, it's built on 105 large base plates. The only thing possibly more epic is the subject matter, the wall. It represented the northern border of the ancient Roman empire way back when.

Being Social

Yes, social media. Just a few short years ago it wasn't a thing. Now we have to look at everyone's meals, kids and pointless selfies. For better or worse, it's a phenomenon that won't go away, and I think it will be interesting to watch it evolve over the next few years. But in the mean time, I can totally relate the character in this genius MOC by 74louloute, it's so hard to keep up. In fact, I'm going to go complain about it on Facebook...

thanks for the head's up OLaf!

The Bottle City Of Kandor

Not being totally steeped in comics as a youth means I do get to enjoy one perk, continual surprises. Today I learned about the inspiration of this MOC of Kandor, the capital city of Krypton. It was shrunk and preserved by Brainiac and eventually recovered by Superman and kept in the Fortress of Solitude. Now it's a beautiful LEGO sculpture by Ken Robichaud.

The Vicious

While I still haven't seen the movie yet (I know, bad nerd) I've seen enough pictures to know this rendition of Nux's car by Jin Kei is marvelously accurate. But even more impressive than it's accuracy is the sense of motion conveyed in the MOC. The simulated dust cloud being kicked up is brilliant.

Serenity And Insanity

I can really relate to this thought provoking self portrait by 6kyubi6, I'm sure we all can to a certain degree. As life hurls one challenge after another we all walk the line between these two states. Although it seems recently I've spent way more time on the insanity side of the line. But I'm not crazy...and neither am I.

Spooky Blockheads

Builder davekaleta is half way done with this latest series of Blockheads and they're my favorite so far. And what better month to roll these monsters out than October right? There's some classic spookies represented so far, and while I dig today's mummy, that mad scientist is just so cool. There's going to be six more, I'm hoping a zombie is in the works (hint hint).

Skavenport

Welcome to Skavenport, the town of rats and men. Beware of half the population, they carry disease, can't be trusted, reproduce indiscriminately and have fleas. The other are rats. Nice build from Jacob Nion, in the tilted timbers style.

K'Aeon Ra

This wonderfully alien craft by ratm0nk3y is like a combination of the Sulaco from Aliens, classic space Blacktron and a healthy dose of the collective human nightmare. Combine it's abstract and unusual form with some excellent photography, editing and backgrounds, and you've got some top-notch space goodness right here.

Dino-Grabber

We've all had one, you might still have one, the classic dinosaur grabber. They're handy for grabbing things just out of reach, terrorizing family cats, menacing fish (just watch E.T.) and with the addition of a fun costume, entertaining puppet shows. This one by Takamichi Irie doesn't function like a real one, but then again the real one isn't made of LEGO now is it?

BrickNerd LiveBuild - Mixels Series 6 (Plus Darth Vader!)

Yes, the Glorp Corp, Weldos and Muchos are here, we've got all of series 6 standing by.

Join me and Mrs BrickNerd as we build LEGO Mixels series 6 live!

D-68 Punisher

How cool would it be to look up and see a squadron of these lovelies screaming in. Well, I guess it would be cool as long as you were on their side. Yes, builder Jon Hall is back with another fantastic sky-fi plane, and she's a beauty. I especially like the squat and almost chili proportions of this one, kind of reminds me of a military version of the classic Gee Bee, with a pusher prop, very cool indeed.

LiveBuild Tomorrow - Mixels Series 6!

We scored all nine of Mixels series 6 and we're going to build them live tomorrow starting at 9am PST. Join me and Mrs BrickNerd as we build them all and hang out with LEGO fans from all over the planet. It will be way more exciting than say, polishing silver or defrosting the fridge.

Classic Space Carrier: LL-422

"How do Classic Space extend their cheerful brand of space exploration to the atmospheres of gas giants?  With a huge floating carrier craft of course!"  Now why didn't I think of that?  Ben Smith was initially inspired by the SHIELD Helicarrier, but decided to go with a CS theme instead.   Those four beefy engines look to be more than adequate to handle Jupiter's tempestuous weather, and I especially like the micro version of the Galaxy Explorer.  Ben admits this is his first serious MOC.  Welcome aboard, Ben!
