Inexotrable

When a new part comes along there's usually a bit of excitement. Depending on the part however, sometimes there's practically a movement. When part 27255 (modified 6x6 hexagonal with pin hole), AKA the "nexogon" arrived on the scene our pals at New Elementary threw down the gauntlet, and builders responded in a big way. This ship and solar communications array by builder Rogue Bantha make extensive use of the part. Check out the details and how it was built in this post.

USS Utah

The moment I saw this I heard those familiar four chimes of the start of the Star Trek theme. Don't bother trying to figure out what film or series this is from, it's fan designed, but that doesn't mean it's not 100% Trek. Builder threeDadventures based this design on concept art by Ryan Denning, and it looks right out of one of the movies. Beautifully designed, expertly built and eminently swooshable.

S.H.A.D.O. Interceptor

Despite being almost unknown in the US, I distinctly remember having a toy of this vehicle as a kid (I also recall losing the missile, heartbreak), the UFO S.H.A.D.O. Interceptor. I recall the show being long on talking and slow on action, but having the coolest theme music ever. So the moment I saw this brilliant version of the ship by builder Norton74, the memories came flooding back, and now the theme song is stuck in my head.

Information Retrieval

Robots will eventually be a part of our everyday lives, in some way they are. But as we imbue them with more personality and human like characteristics will it become harder to think of them as hardware? Take this little guy from builder Legoloverman, it's really hard not to feel sorry for him. A robot is a bunch of metal, plastic and circuits, no more "alive" than a Roomba, but I doubt I'd feel anything if one was in this same position.

Tregatis VI Mining Operation

I hope you were in the mood for some serious Neo Classic Space because this is pretty epic. Welcome to the Tregatis VI Mining Operation, by Brick Knight. According to the builder Tregatis VI is a uninhabited planet located in the Pegasus galaxy. The CS explorers discovered the planet contains a rare mineral that has great potential as an energy source. Click through for many more pictures and get a good look at this huge layout.

Tigress

Since the dawn of man we've been racing. It started simply enough, with our legs, but with each technological advance in transportation it hasn't been very long before somebody said "hey, let's race these". There's no reason to expect this will ever stop, so it's natural to assume in the future we're going to have some pretty nifty go-fast competition. This Formula Zero Gravity ship by Rogue Bantha not only looks fast, but has deep roots in classic LEGO racing, namely Octan. The color scheme is perfect.

NCS "Sobriety"

Yes, Febrovary is here, time to explore other planets. And when it's time to hit the craters, Benny likes to do it in style. In this beauty by Priovit70 he can do that, and keep superior traction with it's four independent tracks. Not only that, but according to the specs this thing has a whopping 5000 horses! I think it's a good thing sound doesn't travel in a vacuum.

Aegnor ZP41352

It might have an awkward name, but it's a graceful craft. This is the Aegnor ZP41352 by builder Faber Mandragora. According to the builder it's a spaceship of the colonial marines used to patrol the stratosphere, but also for quick raids. But despite it's military origins, it's a beautiful and elegant ship. Some excellent photography and editing here, a very striking image.

Mega Core Vehicle Platform

FebRovary is here, and builder ZCerberus is back with an ultra-flexible and humungous neo classic space offering. This is the M.C.V.P, or Mego Core Vehicle Platform, a multi-use, reconfigurable lunar vehicle with a multitude of variants. Here you see it in a couple of configurations, including a BrickNerd exclusive double ion cannon and twin phased pulse rail gun mode. Check out more configurations and the whole story on Eurobricks.

W3-5T and W4-RD

This makes my nerd heart go pitter patter. Builder Pete Reid brings us this dynamic duo mashup of some of his classic robot forms in a brand new crimefighting configuration. Meet W3-5T and W4-RD (an absolutely brilliant name for these two, think about it), Gotham's cure for crime. I would totally read this comic, or watch this movie, over and over.

Gold Leader Standing By...

I've always been a fan of the Y-Wing, with it's scrappy, no nonsense construction, clearly the result of decades of optimizing and losing non essential things, like body panels. They're flying tanks piloted by fearless rebels like Jon "Dutch" Vander, gold leader. This version by mrutek looks awesome, and appears ready to take on the entire Empire itself. I just wanna swoosh it!

Space Marine Helmet

This space marine helmet by builder timofey_tkachev looks right out of a movie or video game. The sleek black design looks intimidating, and not only does it have all the right aesthetics, it's wearable too. I assume it's an original design, but it feels familiar, almost imperial. While it doesn't necessarily look Star Warsy (is that an adjective?) you can definitely feel some of the DNA in it.

Vengeful Spirit

I really dig this ship design by Tim C76, it looks like a mashup of angular Imperial design and classic NASA, with a touch of rebel spirit. But based on the name I'm guessing it's not transporting colonists or doing research. The contrast of the white cladding against the greebly goodness is visually appealing (but must have made it hard to photograph). Regardless I want to rig it, light it, do a motion control pass and put this baby in a movie!

TIE Bomber

Star Wars has a pretty vast collection of vehicles. A great many of them only make brief appearances in the films, and I think that's great. Just like in real life, you don't see giant Caterpillar land movers or F1 cars in the same place or very often, there's no reason to expect you'd see every ship in every movie or show. The TIE Bomber only really got any decent screen time in Empire, and I'm totally cool with that. I always loved that it took what we thought was an exceptional design aesthetic, exclusive to Vader, and made it very utilitarian. This version by marking not only nailed the proportions and details, but it's an impressive scale. I want to see this thing in person!
