A Pirate's Life For Me

Although I never owned any LEGO Pirates sets in my youth, I still have very fond memories of playing with these beloved sets in a friend's attic. This model by LegoFjotten really captures the whimsical feel of these sets and brings a huge smile to my face as I recall the endless hours of adventure between the Pirates and the Imperial Soldiers. And let's be real, we all played as the pirates.

Ninjas On Parade

I don't watch many parades, even the ones at Disneyland, but when I do I'm hoping to see things like this fantastic Ninjago float by builder LegoFjotten. With a little animation and some smoke effects, can you imagine the children's faces when this thing rolled down the parade route?

Fun fact: when I was about 10 years old my brother and I got to ride a float in our little town's annual Flower Festival. Every year, a bunch of locals will fashion crude floats around old junker cars, slather them with glue and fasten millions of flowers to them. Another fun fact: said glue will also fasten children to said float, resulting in ruined pants, emergency response crews and many tears.

Hubba Hubba Hubba, Money Money Money, Who Do You Trust?

When Batman came out in 1989 it was a full week before I got to see it (crunch time on the Ghostbusters attraction at Universal) and by that time I heard all my friends tear it to shreds. I went in with low expectations...and loved it, still do. There are some eye roll moments, but this was the first super hero movie that wasn't just downright silly or bad, and it still holds up. This pivotal scene where Joker tries to poison the residents of Gotham with festive parade floats  (spoilers!) has been gloriously recreated in bricks by builder Cpt. Brick, and I totally love it.
