Stay Frosty And Alert

I was fresh out of high school and jonzin' to start a career in movies when Aliens premiered back in 1986. I can remember going to see it with a buddy and being totally blown away by it. This morning I'm blown away by this spectacular MOC by Missing Brick. The MOC itself is really impressive, but the presentation is what really caught my attention. Using a combination of LED scale lighting, under lighting, an iPad for a splash of color and an atomizer for atmosphere, this iconic scene from the movie is recreated with brilliant results.

Robin Hood and Little John

One memory came rushing to the front of my mind when I first saw this build, so bear with me a second while I take a trip down memory lane. I can't help but envision the scene from Robin Hood: Men in Tights where Robin and Little John are fighting over the bridge. They keep breaking their staffs in half to the point where they are just tiny sticks which they then use to rap each other on the knuckles. Good times. Anyway, this vignette from Paul Vermeesch is a pretty sweet one right? The entire excellent "Brick Time Stories" collaboration series was featured at Brickworld this year and I will post them as I find them.

Claptrap-CL4P-TP

When I was a kid, I always thought it would be cool to have a pet monkey, you know, to fetch stuff I couldn't reach, throw excrement at people I didn't like, and such.  But now that I'm older, I've started thinking that a general purpose robot would be MUCH handier.  And less messy.  My old buddy Simon, aka Si-MOCS has built this nifty dude, Claptrap, from a video game called Borderlands 2.  You'll notice the high intensity greebling under the arm, and the well textured wheel.  But the use of the PAB cup as the eye cover is, at least as far back as I can remember, unique.  Darned clever!

Mayahuel Gunship

This VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) vehicle by Brixnspace is an amazing blend of Osprey, Apache and badassness. It's got just enough real-world inspiration and aesthetic to give it a believability, and enough creativity to make it captivating. The color combinations, proportions, weaponry and smooth lines all add up to a very formidable aircraft.

C-SAW

It seems inevitable that one day we'll have biped machines roaming either this or other worlds. We're just so captivated by the concept of making things walk. If the recent DARPA event is any indication we're still quite a ways off, but we still have our collective imagination. Like this awesome neo classic space walker by newcomer damoncorso, the future looks bright and stompy.

AV-36

This thing would be right at home in a James Cameron movie. This is the AV-36, it's a expeditionary combat support craft designed for high-intensity, low-gravity environments according to builder AFOL-anon. I have to admit, the first thing I think when I see a ship this badass is "let's get this thing on a pylon and program some motion control", but then again I'm a VFX nerd too.

Anger

I had the pleasure of experiencing the midnight premiere of Pixar's new movie Inside Out aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship last week. Although there were moments of questionable conscience (what can I say, there's a lot to do on those boats and I'm old) I really enjoyed it. Anger was by far my favorite character, and I was very pleased to find this MOC by Pixar's own Angus MacLane when I finally got access to wifi again, he's absolutely perfect.

Research And Development

Let's face it, the future isn't going to invent itself. It's going to take creative minds, deep thinkers, tinkerers and dreamers to make it happen. And no matter how far in the future you go, there's always going to be new trails to blaze, new ideas to realize and and new dreams to strive for. Like these intrepid researchers in space, making the next generation of robots happen thanks to the creative mind of Legoloverman

R&D Team

A master class in SHIP building.

This is how it's done, ladies and gentlemen. I've been following this one for a long time, patiently awaiting its completion. The end results, I must say, have been more than worth it. Peter Mowry has been hard at work on The Solacium for nearly a year. I remember seeing the first concept sketch on Flickr in 2014, and wondered how he was going to pull it off. Well, here it is, in all its glory. Words fail me. One of the finest examples of SHIP building that has ever graced the ABS brick. Bravo, Pete.

Wall•E

Pictures of Angus MacLane's forthcoming LEGO Ideas set surfaced a few days ago. And you didn't see them here because I have a strict policy on leaks and rumors, namely that we don't go there. But I will say I'm every bit (if not more) excited for that set as I ever was. It looks like the inevitable modifications by TLG actually improved the set, which is sadly usually not the case (for necessary or at least arguable, if not heartbreaking reasons). Builder Miro78 is excited too, and built this wonderful logo.

NCS Y-Wing

Now here's a mashup I can get behind, Star Wars and neo classic space. Builder Billyburg has brought together the form factor of an all time classic ship from a galaxy far, far away with the modernized aesthetic but classic color combinations of LEGO classic space and the results are pretty sweet. This thing looks ready to take on the Empire.

Gargamel

I know nearly nothing about the Smurfs. I was too old to care about them when they burst onto the American saturday morning cartoon scene in 1981. Interestingly enough, builder Deathly Halliwell also doesn't know much about them either according to his description of this stunning MOC of the main bad guy Gargamel. Lucky for us you don't have to be a Smurf fan to enjoy this marvelous sculpture.

Nadja The Lamia

Part woman, part sea creature, check. Charming features, check. Red hair, check. Likes to collect artifacts of the human world and sing...not so much. Nope, this isn't the Little Mermaid, and she doesn't want to be part of your world (she wouldn't mind eating your children though). This is Nadja the lamia by lingonkart and she's terrifyingly beautiful.

Roads? Where We're Going We Don't Need...Roads

This is stunning, at first glance you don't realize it's LEGO. At second glance you see that that's not photoshop, it's fully lit with LEDs and EL wire. At third glance you see it's minfig scale, and that you might just be drooling on your save the clock tower t-shirt. And this isn't just a modified official kit (but some tiles were borrowed) it's a ground up MOC built with some serious skill by builder BMW_Indy. I just want to mount it to a motion control rig and start shooting!

Lumière

I'm a big Disney nerd, so when you combine the bricks with the magic, you've got my attention. I'm also a fan of secondary characters in Disney animated features. I always think they have the best lines and get up to the most mischief. Sure Simba is the star, but Timon and Pumba are way more interesting. And Belle and Beast had a nice story to tell, but my favorite characters are Lumière and Cogsworth. Speaking of Lumière, check out this amazing MOC by Koen, perfect!
