Mechanical guru Josh DaVid is back with another wonderful kinetic sculpture. This time it's something of a more domestic and ancient task, plowing. For as long as humans have been planting crops we've been enlisting beasts of burden to assist us, and this creation celebrates that collaboration. Check out the video to see it in motion.
I haven't fully wrapped my head around this colossal creation by builder Aliencat, nor have ever understood the fascination with Fabuland. But I do appreciate some fine building, and this is some damn fine building. Everywhere on this craft (lander? Ship? What do I call it?) there's loads of detail and implied functionality. From the accordion ramp to the drop down egress you can tell there's some thought going into how this thing works. Click through for many more pictures.
I've been to my fair share of Quidditch pitchs. I worked on the ride at Universal Studios, and just last week we were animating a small scale match in my studio. Luckily I'm a fan, and I'm also really digging this micro scale pitch by builder Oky - Space Ranger. I'm rooting for Gryffindor, how about you?
This beautiful craft by builder AdNorrel would be right at home in Episode IX in my opinion, it just has a Star Warsy vibe to it. Especially with that nifty bit of lighting and photo editing on the first image. Is that Bespin I see in the distance? I hear they have excellent carbon freezing capabilities there.
Magical beasts come in all shapes and sizes, and pretty much all are just that much better when constructed in bricks. The peaceful demiguise, brilliantly realized here by builder chris office, has the ability to make itself invisible, as demonstrated in the second image below. I'm guessing most of us wouldn't mind this ability at least a couple times a week.
Builder Yatkuu, the 100% human behind this MOC invites us to watch this video, and then this video, then you'll be wondering about your job and your contributions to this world, and ability to function in it. I like to think being an artist means I'm sort of immune to all that, but I'm just a dumb human too, so that remains to be seen.
There's been an awakening. Have you felt it? That's right! SHIPtember is just around the corner and noblebun is warming up their shipbuilding skills with this fantastic frigate. I've got to say, I love the angles and all, but what really catches my eye is the use of copper elements, especially that arc reactor looking engine in the back. This ship would definitly make Tony Stark proud.
I don't know about you, but as soon as I look at this awesome bust by builder modestolus I hear the theme song from Inspector Gadget. Or maybe it's Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew, I suppose it could be that. Now I want to pop & lock while beatboxing and watching cartoons, is that weird?
It's one of the most awe inspiring visuals in the Star Wars saga, and now it's an awe inspiring creation in bricks, the Imperial occupation of Jedha. Builder one case has absolutely nailed the look in this nearly 5000 piece construction, from the color variations in the rock strata, to the scale of the city, to the perfectly scaled Star Destroyer, it's all jaw dropping. Technically this is a micro build, but when it's something this large and epic, that's easy to forget.
I personally am enjoying the resurgence of Harry Potter's Wizarding World, I was a big fan of the books, enjoyed the movies and was starting to miss magic in my muggle life. Watching Magical Beasts brought back all those magical feels, and Niffler, brilliantly recreated here in bricks by DOGOD Brick Design, brought a few chuckles. The moment I looked at this excellent little Empire Strikes Back vignette by builder GolPlaysWithLego John Williams' phenomenal score started playing in my head. Then the scene played out in my imagination, and I was 12 again. This is part of the magic of LEGO and Star Wars, they just go together like peanut butter and toast (which is what I was eating when I wrote this, I'm a man-child).
When most people think of battle mechs, they often imagine a huge and clunky war machine made to take a pounding. But Chokolat Shadow envisions something much more agile and graceful but that packs just as much of a punch! Think of this mech as the assassin of mechs! A beautiful, firey, mechanized assassin that is.
When Hogwarts held the Triwizard Tournament the Durmstrang school arrived by boat, magical boat. Builder Swan Dutchman seems to have a little wizard in him too, crafting this tiny boat somewhere around 20 studs in length, but cramming 400 parts into it (not including the water). It's a wonderfully crafted micro scale ship from the wizarding world.
I have a definite soft spot for classic beetles. I've told the stories before of it being the family car of my childhood and my first car as an adult. Being nothing but round makes it an exceptional challenge in bricks, but builder Everblack was up to that challenge, and this is the result. You can practically hear that flat four chugging huh?
I'm not sure what inspired builder Red2 to build this WWII German Prime Mover, but I'm glad he did. Not that I'm a fan of nazis (they were a bunch of mass-murdering buttheads) but they certainly could invade a country in style huh? This is basically a half-track parade vehicle, for when you want to make a big entrance, but might have to do it over sand.
Builder Bricksonwheels knows how to construct a scale Harley, and here's a pair to fit your moods. Feeling a little dark? Take this black on black Street Glide for a cruise. Or for a little more shiny in your life head out on this Softail custom. Both of them are deliciously detailed from tip to tail, and just yearning for the open road.
Although I never owned any LEGO Pirates sets in my youth, I still have very fond memories of playing with these beloved sets in a friend's attic. This model by LegoFjotten really captures the whimsical feel of these sets and brings a huge smile to my face as I recall the endless hours of adventure between the Pirates and the Imperial Soldiers. And let's be real, we all played as the pirates.
Surfing is already pretty rad, but combined with hot rods you end up with something totally tubular! Andrea Lattanzio has made a gnarly scene that makes me want to go hit the waves with a bunch of bros. Then I remember that I don't speak like a surfer dude and don't have a hotrod. At least I know I won't become shark food, right?
Just when you think you've heard of every sport possible, from underwater hockey to bog snorkeling, out of nowhere comes some BrickHead that makes you question everything you know. This particular BrickHead by jarekwally is a hurler from the Limerick team. You heard me right, a hurler! Hurling is apparently an outdoor team sport of Gaelic and Irish origin that revolves around hitting a small ball with a bat into the opponent's goal. Huh, sounds a lot like a combination of soccer and baseball, maybe I should give it a try someday.
No one likes to clean up poo but someone has to do it. Dung Beetles are actually quite fascinating little creatures, despite being scatophages (dung eaters) and also dung dwellers. The Scarab well know from Egyptian mythology is a dung beetle. The nocturnal North African Scarabaeus satyrus species of dung beetle is the only non human animal that uses the Milky Way to celestially navigate. Takamichi Irie captures the likeness of nature's janitor at work rolling an excellently modeled ball of dung. The tennis rackets for the flies wings are excellent parts usage as is the photography of with the reflection on the beetles carapace and the fly just out of focus. The beetle itself is well executed as well, capturing the shape, and the details of the spiky nature of the dung beetle's legs.
