Like just about all sports, I’m not into boxing. Watching two people beat each other senseless does nothing for me. But I truly appreciate a good character build, and getting anatomy right at this scale takes some skill. This guy looks like he has the power to flatten another guy, thanks to the building chops of vir-a-cocha.
Living in California comes with three major caveats: It’s expensive, it shakes occasionally and it’s pretty flammable. For the first two it’s a matter of wanting it enough and being prepared, for the third it’s having some of the bravest, skilled and determined firefighters in the world. It also helps to have the proper equipment, like this HME type 3 4x4 wildland fire engine by builder sponki25.
The production design for the Harry Potter films has always been pretty amazing, especially starting with the third movie Prisoner of Azkaban. You’ll see plenty of unconventional structures in that universe, and this is a great example, the Shrieking Shack. I won’t go into details of the story (no spoilers here) but you don’t need them to appreciate how wonky and kattywompus this thing is architecturally, and that kattywompusness is captured perfectly in this version by builder Xenomurphy.
The final film in the greatest saga of all time is upon us, and the world is on the edge of its seat. George said way back around 1980 that there were nine films to tell this story, and the 9th one will be out in December. And while I really didn’t care for the prequels, and Last Jedi left me conflicted and a little bitter, I am looking forward to this film. There’s a ton of cool imagery in the trailer (for my full reaction watch this) and this shot, brilliantly recreated by KevFett2011, was especially goosebump inducing.
This is an impressive bit of building from Toltomeja. While technically micro scale it’s pretty colossal, measuring nearly five feet wide and so packed with detail you can stare at it for days. The construction of this sorta blows my mind, and if you want to get a peek at just how complex it truly is click through for a sneak peek at the bottom of it, it’s staggering.
Everyone’s favorite haunted holiday is here, and builders are celebrating all over the world. Everywhere you scroll there’s spookiness, and these hotrods by builder ianying616 are as cool as they are frightening. The big question is who would win? My money is on Batman, you know he has some tricks up his sleeve.

About a year in the making, this incredible rendition of the “pork burger” by Rogue Bantha is at 1/72 scale, and from what I can see looks pretty darn accurate. Yes, there’s two official sets at about this scale (well, quite a bit bigger), and you may have been temporarily confused when you saw this, but this one is hand crafted by a fan, and I’m a fan of that fan.
It’s Sunday, which is classically a day of rest, so as normal I’ll be working (I pretty much work seven days a week, but it’s ok, I choose to). But I do intend to set aside a little time today to continue my exploration of Koholint Island in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awaking on my Nintendo Switch. Partially because I occasionally have to remind myself to take some down time, and partly because I saw this outrageously cool micro scale build from BrickinNick.
Behold L.S.C., The LEGO Steam Company by builders Brick Rebel and Monstrophonic. This incredible collaboration was built for Lego World Utrecht 2019 and I desperately wish I could have been there to see this wondrous creation in person. There’s so much detail and steamy goodness wherever you look, and interactive powered features. A video is forthcoming and I can’t wait to see it.
We’ve discussed my exceeding oldnessness on this blog a few times. For instance, I remember when there there as only three channels, and the remote control looked a lot like me, because it was me. I remember lawn darts, pong and Star Wars action figures being “new”. And I remember a time before all these magnetic mediums by builder Cha Mi, and their inevitable demise.
Being October, and especially being a week away from Halloween, scary images are everywhere. Some are from classic stories, some are from books, some are from tradition but the really cool ones are from movies, like this creation from The Shining by builder timofey_tkachev. It’s an iconic moment, when Jack uses an axe as an alternative door knob (r in this case, a brick separator).
Right about now you’re wondering who this is, so was I. Normally about that same time I’m thinking about the research I’m about to dive into so I can share this with at least some knowledge. But I’ll spare you the google, this is an original creation by Eero Okkonen, no deep dive necessary. If you want to learn more though there’s a ton of pictures and description on Eero’s website, and it’s an absolute treasure trove let me tell you.

I really can’t get enough of Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, and this little bit of scenery from Hyrule by builder speedyhead has me questioning my need to get to the studio this morning so soon. Maybe just a little exploring first? Yeah, that’s a good idea.
A large portion of my childhood was dedicated to the construction of plastic model kids. I had lots of favorites, the Aurora monster kits for instance, but the ones that really stand out were the Tom Daniel hotrods from Monogram. I built them all, some more than once. So this brilliant rendition of Paddy Wagon by Norton74 is a huge nostalgia rush for me. The detail is amazing, and there’s so much shiny I can’t stand it (I think I have an additional chrome-osome…get it?)
I know I’m a VFX geek, I’ve come to terms with that. Even though I’ve spent the last 30 years working on movies, I’m still a total spaz for it. So my first instinct when I saw this awesome cargo ship by ZCerberus wasn’t a desire to swoosh it and wasn’t a desire to make the cannons go “pew pew”, it was to mount it on a pylon in front of a green screen and do some motion control shots. What’s wrong with me?
The Legend of Zelda is totally my jam, and Breath of the Wild is an absolute masterpiece. I’ve been playing it since it came out over two and a half years ago and I’m still loving it. In fact I finished it on Wii U, then I got a Switch for father’s day and started all over again, I love it. So seeing this perfectly rendered rendition of Link’s house from builder Boba-1980 makes my nerd heart sing. It’s even got an interior where Link can rest and admire his weapon collection, brilliant.
Fans of World of Warcraft, especially Horde, will recognize this imposing character. It’s Thrall, by builder chris office, and do what he says or face the business end of his war hammer. We’re enjoying the resurgence of WoW here at our house (well, my boys are, I’m all about the Zelda) and everyone is happy.
I know what you are all thinking, this isn’t from Pirates of the Caribbean?!? No, it’s not, and as the kids say these days you got click-baited. I’m kidding! Tortooga is actually the name Klikstyle gave to this wonderful little turtle from a fantasy world. Although part of me is thinking about how adorable it is, there’s always that other part of me that wonders what it tastes like. But I’m sure with sharp spines and a shell like that it’s safe from my flimsy hands, for now.
We all know you have to eat your veggies if you want to grow up big and strong, it’s just too bad there’s nothing in that old saying about proper arm length or a natural immunity to large meteors. But please don’t mention that to this dino by Greeble_Scum, he seems to really be enjoying his greens. Besides, just because he doesn’t eat meat doesn’t mean he won’t bite it.
