A Gun In Space
/The USS Sulaco from the 1986 classic Aliens is one of my favorite all-time ships. Syd Mead's original design for the ship, while still cool, was a little bulbous and not very fitting for the Colonial Marines' bad ass persona. Then director James Cameron did a rough sketch of what's been called a "gun in space" and the rest is history. This MOC by Si-MOCs captures it's iconic shape perfectly in small form.
DaVinci Flying Machine
/I love a good MOC with animation. Check out this DaVinci flying machine by True Dimensions. It not only has great aesthetics, the motion is great. The best part is you can build your own because True Dimensions has shared instructions on his website. You can also support it on Cuusoo.
Walking Chicken Hut
/If I had a dollar for every time I spotted a Russian folklore inspired steampunk walking battle ready chicken hut...well, I could almost afford a Big Gulp. This whimsical and charming MOC by Dwalin Forkbeard is just that, and while a little difficult to wrap your head around, it's not hard to appreciate clever building and fun design.
Alfa Romeo 8C 2600 Monza
/What we have here is one sleek-looking, crimson beauty. I mean seriously, look at this thing! It would be amazing in any color, but is even more so in the rare LEGO dark red. The build is chock full of great little details including foot pedals, shifter, and a fully modeled engine under the hood.
They just don't make cars like this anymore.
Bing Bing Bing...TILT!
/I dropped many a quarter into various pinball machines in my past, but the machines that took the most of my hard earned coins were always the Star Wars themed machines. So this MOC by 6kyubi6 makes me very happy. And this doesn't just look awesome, it's totally playable and has lights!. Check out the video after the jump.
Fabuland Hobbiton
/Here's a 'fab' mashup by qi_tah, The Shire and Fabuland. As if Hobbiton wasn't inviting enough, with the addition of Fabuland characters and charm, it's absolutely irresistible. I wish I had been able to see this in person at Brickvention.
Goin' Live In 24 Hours, For 24 Hours
/If you're like me your nerdiness extends beyond just the realm of bricks. If you're also into designer toys, art, vinyl and just toys in general, I'd like to introduce you to Toy Break (if you don't know about it already). Toy Break is a weekly web series hosted by Ayleen and George Gaspar. Tomorrow night they are broadcasting their yearly 24 hour live show, and I'm going to be there.
Join me at 5pm PST on Friday with Ayleen, George and a ton of artists and toy enthusiasts as we raise funds for Toy Break and just have a lot of fun.
Chaos Marine
/This MOC by nate_daly is actually a few months old, but these new pictures really show off how awesome it truly is. There's so much to love and detail everywhere on this figure. I think my favorite part use is the Technic bumper bricks on the shoulders, inspired.
In The House Of Tom Bombadil
/I'm a fan of Lord Of The Rings. And while many fans took some offense or were at least disappointed when Tom Bombadil didn't make the cut in Peter Jackson's epic trilogy I have to admit I didn't care. It's always struck me as sort of superfluous and odd part of the book. But perhaps if I had seen this charming MOC by Sergeant Chipmunk I would have had a clearer picture in my head. Then again, there's those songs...
You Got Red On You
/Cornetto and LEGO fans rejoice! TeeFury has this awesome shirt on sale today. You need to hurry thought, it's for one day only and as of this post there is only 13.5 hours left!
BrickNerd Episode 202
/The latest episode is online, featuring LifeLites Self-Contained PostLite and LEGO Lord Business' Evil Lair from The LEGO Movie.
Deep In The Forest
/This MOC by Mitah Val Karem depicts elves retrieving a secret cache of weapons in the middle of the forest. The cutaway sides revealing the action below is really cool, but what caught my eye was the tree. Mitah uses click hinges and barbs to great effect here.
Spacastle
/Space and Castle, two of the most iconic LEGO themes ever created, have always been in stark contrast with each other. Space has been about squeaky clean starships with smooth lines and rocket boosters. Castle, on the other hand, has focused on the nitty gritty sword-and-sorcery struggle between the king and his subjects against some evil faction bent on their destruction. The two have never been crossed before. That is until today! Paul Vermeesch has rocketed the castle theme from planet earth and dropped it on some unknown planet creating a vision of what late-middle-ages on an alien planet would look like.
Way Cool Video From Way Cool Books
/If you've read my reviews of the Amazing Vehicles books (you have, haven't you?) then you know I'm a fan. Well, this video is every bit as awesome as the books. No, you won't learn to build them from it, but if you can appreciate excellent animation and groovy beats, check this out.
So Much Awesome
/Brace yourselves. What do you get when you combine an awesome concept artist, with an awesome movie, with an awesome visual effect studio, with an awesome LEGO designer, with an awesome AFOL? You get this, the spinner from Blade Runner, designed by Syd Mead, realized by ILM, built in Technic by LEGO's Jørgen Thomsen and reverse engineered by BrickJournal's own Joe Meno.
Arrrggg!
/The Cornetto Trilogy
/We don't normally cover LEGO fan art of this type on this site, but I'm a huge Edgar Wright fan and these are too cool not to share. Behold the Cornetto Trilogy in LEGO by Arkøv! Can you imagine a shot-for-shot animated version of these films? Yeah, booooy!
