Poison Pinto
/When I was a kid, there was a time when the driveway was occupied by a classic beetle, and a Ford Pinto. That car was a piece of junk and the whole family pretty much dreaded going anywhere in it. Now if had been even remotely as cool as this awesome MOC by Proudlove, I'm sure we would have been trying to think of excuses to go for a ride all the time. Well, the kids maybe, I couldn't see my mom wanting to go anywhere near this car.
BrickNerd Live Build - LEGO Minecraft
/That's right block stacking fans, we're building the new LEGO Minecraft sets live!
Join me and my special guests at 10am PST
It's like watching paint dry, without the fumes!
Inside The Mind Of A LEGO Artist
/Have you ever pondered what goes on inside the mind of a LEGO artist? Builder Kristal Dubois has and here is a visualization, in the form of a kinetic sculpture. The picture only tells part of the story, watch the video for a wonderful demonstration of this fantastic MOC. As a side note, you really don't want to know what goes on inside my mind, but for the record it has Powerhouse playing as the soundtrack.
Brick Or Treat!
/Halloween is upon us, and while there are the classic costumes like witches, cowboys and ghosts, there are kids out there (and awesome parents) who take it to the next level. For instance Elijah, Aliyah and Jonah here at LEGOLAND CA today. You can have your ninjas and transformers, these kids are Footi from the Mixels, a Nixel and Olivia from LEGO Friends, excellent!
BrickNerd LiveBuild - Minecraft
/Yes, we've managed to get our grubby little paws on the new Minecraft sets and we're going to build at least one live starting at 10am PST.
Join me, my son, Mrs BrickNerd and probably some Starbucks coffee and as we try to make building marginally more exciting than say, collating plastic spoon purchase orders from three years ago.
See you tomorrow!
Burning Gundam
/Builder LEGO DUO Moko has mastered the art of robots, characters and chibi. His latest is a perfect blend of badass and cute, a classic Gundam mech, with chibi proportions and amazing flame effects. The model has fantastic pose-ability for it's size as well, click through for many more poses and check out his blog for more info in Japanese.
Welcome To Aurora
/I've been watching the Flickr feeds of Legohaulic and NannanZ for a while with fascination, if not confusion. The lovely but mysterious little floating island MOCs were showing up regularly, but no real description was given. Well the mystery is over and the results of their combined efforts are nothing less than jaw dropping, Aurora.
The collaborative build is comprised of several large and many small floating islands positively bustling with foliage and whimsical structures. The color pallet, building style and overall design is just stunning. There are a great many more pictures to enjoy on both of their photo streams, I invite you to click through and relish.
Sennecks' Reside
/Builder Legonardo Davidy has done it again, just look at this amazing MOC. Only a few short years ago I wouldn't have believed shapes and structures like this were possible with our favorite building material, but I'm continually amazed and delighted by builders who push the limits and boundaries of the hobby. There's so many things I love about this I don't know where to start, so I'll just invite you to stare along with me.
Nerdvember is coming
/Keep your eyes on this site and Flickr, and get ready to build...
LL-931
/Lego Junkie is no stranger to this blog, but he is somewhat of a stranger to neo classic space. But for the Interstellar Outpost Contest on Flickr, he has gone NCS, and the results speak for themselves. The off-center cockpit is actually a contest rule, and should make for some very interesting entries. It's done to perfection in this little fighter.
Three Wheels Of Retro Fun
/This slick, three wheeled wonder comes to us courtesy of builder Vince Toulouse. I love the retro-future styling, the clean design and the simple but effective color scheme. It's fantastic enough to really catch your eye, but utilitarian enough that you would almost think it's real. Of course the real burning question is would I drive it? Yes, yes I would.
SLR FTW
/When I was in high school I got my first camera, the venerable Pentax K1000. I learned all the principals of photography with that camera, and it holds a special place in my heart. So to see it (or at least a generic contemporary) in brick form from one of my favorite builders was a total squee moment this morning (luckily no one was around). Powerpig presents his latest addition to his mini camera series, the SLR. And the best news is a building guide is in the works so we can all have this little baby on our shelves.
Update: Chris revealed a little secret included in the kit he'll be selling soon, the back opens to reveal the film! The special printed bricks by customBRICKS really completes it.
Comic Bricks Coming To Designer Con
/Some of the nerdiest and coolest LEGO artists are banding together to bring a unique art display to Designer Con 2014, Comic Bricks! One-of-a-kind MOCs inspired by classic and contemporary comic book covers like this totally awesome HULK cover by Monsterbrick. I've signed on to create one (this was before I started working 12 hour days, 6 day weeks on a film) and I really wish I could get to my studio to start building. Designer Con will be in Pasadena Nov 8-9 and will also have a full STUDS display as in years past. Please join us!
X-Wing Gundam
/Builder M<0><0>DSWIM is back with a brilliant anime/sci-fi mashup, the X-Wing Gundam. At first glance it's a fairly typical mech, but then you start noticing the color scheme, the design elements, the nods to the classic Star Wars ship (check it out, it's Red Five), and of course R2-D2. There's even a cockpit for Luke.
Steamy Typewriter
/I'm about to age myself again. I learned to type on a typewriter...in high school. Yes, we had computers back then, but they weren't in every classroom, and typing was considered a very good skill to have so we sat at rows and rows of typewriters hacking out fff jjj ddd kkk. For the record they were more advanced than this steampunk version by timofey_tkachev, but nowhere near as beautiful. Just look a the styling and details on this baby, gorgeous.
Stonewald Docks
/Let's be honest here for a second, only shady dealings ever go down at a castle's port. Need to fence some goods? Trade some poor soul into slavery for quick cash? Find a rogue to do your evil bidding? Look no further than this city's local docks.
Builder Becheman has been on a tear lately with his Lands of Roawia contributions. This specific build features a well-built cutter and a small section of the city docks. While I am not a huge fan on the bley colored water style, it has been growing on me lately, especially when the builder is trying to express a gloomy feel to the creation.
Out For A Spin In The Federation Rover
/One of the peculiarities lunar astronauts experienced while visiting our moon was a lack of scale and distance while on the surface. Without classic depth cues like atmosphere they had some difficulty gauging distance and size of objects. Well premiere space builder and all around swell guy Pete Reid's latest MOC is capable if a similar peculiarity. At first glance it looks like a cute, classic rover with trailers. That is until you start looking closer and recognize some of the parts. That's actually a flashlight fig piloting that rover, and that lovely base is actually two studs deep. The whole thing is far bigger than you first expected huh? Brilliant.
Guardian Arrives
/Here's a little dose of neo classic space goodness, in the form of a huge mech from builder SweStar to compliment his already spectacular hangar. I love the classic color scheme on this beast, with it's yellow cockpit and blue details. And of course there's the hangar itself, which is already an impressive environment populated with really cool stuff. That giant classic space logo is an awesome touch too.
The Beards Of Old
/When seeking wisdom, dwarves sometimes visit the statues of their elders. When I'm seeking wisdom, I visit Wikipedia. One of these seems more noble than the other. Builder Legonardo Davidy has taken stone beards to the next level with this MOC. Just look at that sculpting!
