Robot Drilling Team

So what do you do when you need a hole drilled on a distant, desolate moon? Sure you could grab a pickaxe and huff it to the middle of nowhere and start digging away, maybe even pack a light lunch. Or you could sit in the comfort of your climate controlled habitat pod and watch reruns of Spaced while you send out a robot drilling team, like these from Legoloverman.

Join Us For The Mixels Pre-Game LiveBuild!

Yes, the Super Bowl is tomorrow, and while you're arranging your chip bowls and getting ready to grill burgers join us live while we build Mixels Series 4. It'll be a way better pre game than the NFL can do, there's only so much Terry Bradshaw and Budweiser commercials you can take you know. We'll start at 11am PST, see you then!

Kirby

Oh Kirby, you lovable lump of whatever you are. Through it's many years Nintendo has brought many iconic characters to life in it's games, but few are so simultaneously cute and baffling as Kirby. What kid hasn't been playing Kirby Air Ride just to be interrupted by a visiting relative and tried to explain what Kirby is (and failed to really do so). Here's a quick tip when grandma asks "What is Kirby?": Just hit pause, look her dead in the eyes and say "pink", then it's game on. This rendition by Swan Dutchman totally captures...whatever he is.

Limbo

Ah, I remember when I had time to play video games, those were the days. But just because I don't have time to play doesn't mean I can't appreciate brilliant game design, and brilliant MOCs. This tribute to one of the most lusciously dark and beautiful games in recent years, Limbo, captures it's unique look perfectly. The use of varying shades of grey here is inspired, and works perfectly to simulate the dark and foggy world.

By The Power Of Greyskull!

Builder LegoJalex has created just about the cutest series of MOTU ever. Using a minimal amount of bricks he has built just about every character in the series. I personally came along a bit too early to appreciate He-Man and the gang, I was too distracted by girls and filmmaking, but I know there's a whole generation out there that is gonna eat this up.

Don't Touch That Dial

"...That was Muskrat Love by Captain & Tennille on this lovely Monday morning here in Lompoc California. The high today is expected to be 74º and a bit windy, but you're used to that. Coming up this weekend is the annual Flower Festival and I wanted to let you know that KNEZ is going to be there. I'll be live as the parade passes the station here and then later at the park we'll be hosting a live chat with grand marshal Flip Reed! Now let's rock out to The Edgar Winter Group with Frankenstein, right here on KNEZ!"

The Blackwater Study

I love a small, ultra detailed vignette, and this is just that. You can't just look at this MOC by CrazyLlama2 and not be drawn in. Who is this? What does he do in this room? What kind of books are those? This is a story waiting to unfold, and that's a hallmark of a good vignette. That floor technique is also a stand out feature, well done. I do have to wonder what happened to the original CrazyLlama though, very suspicious...

The Kraken

As Iron Builder enters it's final days the competition hasn't let up. Siercon and Coral have unleaded their building skills like some sort of mythical undersea creature hell bent on destruction. Like some multi-tentacled beast feared above all ocean predators. Like some giant, angry behemoth ready to drag you to the depths. If there were only some way to illustrate this concept...

Boing!

An open letter to all parents:

Are you considering buying a trampoline for your children? Before you do I'd like to invite you to watch an episode of America's Funniest Home Videos. It doesn't matter which one really, just pick an episode. Now watch carefully when they show the trampoline clips (aren't they in every episode?) See how the magical formula of stretched canvas, springs and a frame reduces collective IQ by up to 64%? Before encountering this device, the involved human was at least reasonably intelligent, walking upright and uninjured, now they are a cautionary tale. Before you bring one of these devices to your back yard (by the way, they're supposed to be in your back yard) please stock up on bandaids, splints and ice packs, you're going to need them. This incredible simulation of a typical encounter is by Legohaulic, see the raw fear in those eyes? You've been warned.

Wolf's Monstery

This Monstery by C-Core was originally intended for CCC, but wasn't done in time due to a combination of perfection and time constraints, and I think that's actually fantastic. I will totally take a model that the builder is happy with than a model that was rushed to make a contest deadline any day, and this one is a beauty. There's many things to love about this tower, but those slender cathedral windows are a highlight.

Space Invader

I'm not certain if this unorthodox mosaic by pasukaru76 is an homage to the original video game or to the street artist. But since the the street artist is paying homage to the video game does it really matter? While working in London I used to walk under an original Space Invader every morning, and wonder how on earth he got it up there.
