Even Romans Get Ambushed Sometimes. . .

Mark Erickson built this creation a year or two back, but just now is getting around to posting it on his Flickr. I'm glad he did, 'cause his Roman MOC's are some of my favorites from him. This model he is presenting to us this week features excellent landscape, the highlight of the build for me. The terrain has subtle layering that blends together very well, and the trees top off this scene. The minifigs, featuring custom accessories, are also well posed and express the emotion of the scene very well. Hoping for some more Roman creations from you, Mark!

Nathaniel Stoner

My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations).

When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here

Bumblebee

Just about an hour ago as I was leaving Starbucks I spotted a bright yellow Camero in the parking lot with the license place "BUZZZZ" and chuckled to myself. Then I refresh my Flickr feed and discover this stunning offering from builder Cesbrick. Say what you will about Michael Bay (and I've said plenty, I've worked with the dude) but this character resonates with a whole lot of people.

Jango's Helmet

Builder Lego Admiral is back with another addition to his growing collection of wearable Star Wars helmets. This time around it's Jango Fett, feared bounty hunter, general badass and Boba Fett's "dad". I really expected Jango to play a larger role in the prequels, given the popularity of Boba. Alas, he ended falling short of expectations, and shorter than he was at the beginning of Episode II.

Alien Vs Predator

And when I say "vs" it's not in the context of these two fighting, it's more of a "cute-off". Yes, two of the most feared adversaries seem to be in a battle to out ugly each other, but failing miserably because they're so darned adorable. I think if the crew of the Nostromo or Arnold had been up against these two the results might have been far more "squee". Nice build Mr. Brickman.

Steam Giants

I know practically nothing about trains, but I do appreciate them, especially a classic steam powered beast. And these two by builder Cale Leiphart are about as beastly as they come. At first I thought I was looking at different sides of the same model, then I saw them side by side and it took me a little while to spot the differences. The attention to detail and dedication to accuracy is impressive.

The Dark Bluish Gray Pearl

This boat is sorta blowing my mind. I mean, it's inspired by the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean, so it's got my attention already. But that hull design and technique has me absolutely flummoxed. I could not tell you how it's done, nor how it stays together. But combine that with loads of cool techniques and the color palette and it's just a stunner from every angle.

Locust

When you hear the word "locust" what do you think of? A mostly harmless grasshopper-like small insect? A plague of mostly harmless grasshopper-like small insects capable of destroying entire crops and devastating everything in their path? How about a neo classic space twin engine gunship? Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, thanks to builder ZCerberus.

Koelbel Building

The Hit the Bricks exhibit on the campus of Colorado University, Boulder is getting expanded thanks to the efforts of COWLUG. The already massive layout is going to be even bigger with additions like the Koelbel Building here by builder Imagine™. Having built with this wall technique before I know first hand what a huge investment in parts and time it is, but as you can see it's totally worth it.

IT

Confession time, I've never read Stephen King's IT. I've also never seen the Tim Curry movie by the same name. And I have no plans for the new film. It's not that I'm afraid, just not interested. Luckily I don't have to, this brilliant sculpture of Pennywise by builder Tim Lydy is going to haunt my dreams for the next several weeks, thanks Tim!

Saberkitty

The most efficient form of planetary vehicle is by far a wheeled transport...it's also the most boring. And let's face it, Unikitty is anything but boring, so of course she has opted for a four legged, saber toothed walking mech. Obviously it's equipped with state of the art communications and weapons, but if I know Unikitty, it's also got a pretty slammin' sound system too. Nice build thenewpoon.

BB-9E

The anticipation for The Last Jedi is growing, and with Force Friday things just intensified. A lot of hype is surrounding this little guy, a BB unit clearly aligned with the First Order, with some classic Imperial styling. And what better way to celebrate his arrival than a Brick Sketch, done to perfection by the inventor of the art form himself, Chris McVeigh.

I See You've Constructed A New Lightsaber

Yes, I know that's a quote from Vader, and that he's referring to Luke's saber in Return of the Jedi. Try to imagine me doing a terrible Darth Vader impersonation (well, it's not that bad) and I'm actually speaking to builder Koen, now it makes sense. This version of Vader's lightsaber is the best I've ever seen in brick, clean and surprisingly acurate.

Review - 40268 R3-M2 Polybag

Force Friday is here, which means LEGO pages around the world will be reviewing the latest wave of Star Wars sets to hit the shelves just today. After wondering when this R3-M2 exclusive polybag would be readily available, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my local Toys R Us store was giving them out as a promotional freebie with a purchase of LEGO Star Wars. Let's take a closer look at this cool figure!

19 Years Later. . .

It's the descendants of Harry Potter's first day of their term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Today in Harry Potter fan history marks the time in the final novel of the Harry Potter series where Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley return to Platform 9 3/4 to send their own children off to school. This scene, composed by Jonas Kramm, is the perfect build to feature today here on BrickNerd. It's quite creative and magically executed, with James Sirius Potter disappearing into the hidden column gateway. With Voldemort defeated, all witches and wizards can breathe a bit more easily. . .that is, until the next instalment of the series.

Battle In the Streets of Theed

With the excitement of Battlefront II growing, fans like Jamesbrick take to their plastic bricks to express their longing for the game to come sooner. With the game footage we have seen, we know that you will be able to play in Theed, the capital city of Naboo, as your favorite heroes and villains of the films (including the clone troopers, voided by the awesome Dee Bradley Baker once again)! This little fight scene created by James brings together recognizable sights from Theed, such as the tan architecture, green roof lines, and layered streets/balconies. With this being such a small scene, I'm quite impressed with how well it came together. There's just the right amount of texturing here! Not too much, not too little. Who would win in a fight, Rey or Maul?

Great Scott! BrickCon Is Coming!

Way back in 2009 my buddy Iain Heath and I met at our first LEGO convention, BrickCon in Seattle. We were both displaying character stuff which really didn't have a place to be. Iain suggested we commandeer an unused table space back in the corner. So we combined forces to create a new theme for BrickCon, and it's been going ever since. This year the BrickCon theme is "Brick To Old School", with a strong Back to the Future vibe, so we're embracing it. Check out these amazing trophies built by Iain himself, and this year's BOC badge bricks. We would like to cordially invite you to bring your character based builds to the coolest table in all of BrickCon. You will also be cool by association, you want to be cool don't you?
