Being Social

Yes, social media. Just a few short years ago it wasn't a thing. Now we have to look at everyone's meals, kids and pointless selfies. For better or worse, it's a phenomenon that won't go away, and I think it will be interesting to watch it evolve over the next few years. But in the mean time, I can totally relate the character in this genius MOC by 74louloute, it's so hard to keep up. In fact, I'm going to go complain about it on Facebook...

The Bottle City Of Kandor

Not being totally steeped in comics as a youth means I do get to enjoy one perk, continual surprises. Today I learned about the inspiration of this MOC of Kandor, the capital city of Krypton. It was shrunk and preserved by Brainiac and eventually recovered by Superman and kept in the Fortress of Solitude. Now it's a beautiful LEGO sculpture by Ken Robichaud.

The Vicious

While I still haven't seen the movie yet (I know, bad nerd) I've seen enough pictures to know this rendition of Nux's car by Jin Kei is marvelously accurate. But even more impressive than it's accuracy is the sense of motion conveyed in the MOC. The simulated dust cloud being kicked up is brilliant.

Serenity And Insanity

I can really relate to this thought provoking self portrait by 6kyubi6, I'm sure we all can to a certain degree. As life hurls one challenge after another we all walk the line between these two states. Although it seems recently I've spent way more time on the insanity side of the line. But I'm not crazy...and neither am I.

Spooky Blockheads

Builder davekaleta is half way done with this latest series of Blockheads and they're my favorite so far. And what better month to roll these monsters out than October right? There's some classic spookies represented so far, and while I dig today's mummy, that mad scientist is just so cool. There's going to be six more, I'm hoping a zombie is in the works (hint hint).

Skavenport

Welcome to Skavenport, the town of rats and men. Beware of half the population, they carry disease, can't be trusted, reproduce indiscriminately and have fleas. The other are rats. Nice build from Jacob Nion, in the tilted timbers style.

K'Aeon Ra

This wonderfully alien craft by ratm0nk3y is like a combination of the Sulaco from Aliens, classic space Blacktron and a healthy dose of the collective human nightmare. Combine it's abstract and unusual form with some excellent photography, editing and backgrounds, and you've got some top-notch space goodness right here.

Dino-Grabber

We've all had one, you might still have one, the classic dinosaur grabber. They're handy for grabbing things just out of reach, terrorizing family cats, menacing fish (just watch E.T.) and with the addition of a fun costume, entertaining puppet shows. This one by Takamichi Irie doesn't function like a real one, but then again the real one isn't made of LEGO now is it?

D-68 Punisher

How cool would it be to look up and see a squadron of these lovelies screaming in. Well, I guess it would be cool as long as you were on their side. Yes, builder Jon Hall is back with another fantastic sky-fi plane, and she's a beauty. I especially like the squat and almost chili proportions of this one, kind of reminds me of a military version of the classic Gee Bee, with a pusher prop, very cool indeed.

Classic Space Carrier: LL-422

"How do Classic Space extend their cheerful brand of space exploration to the atmospheres of gas giants?  With a huge floating carrier craft of course!"  Now why didn't I think of that?  Ben Smith was initially inspired by the SHIELD Helicarrier, but decided to go with a CS theme instead.   Those four beefy engines look to be more than adequate to handle Jupiter's tempestuous weather, and I especially like the micro version of the Galaxy Explorer.  Ben admits this is his first serious MOC.  Welcome aboard, Ben!

Good Mythical Morning!

It's it wonderful when a MOC opens your eyes to something new? Like a game you've never heard of, or a character you fall in love with. Today I discovered Good Mythical Morning thanks to builder jtheels. Not that I really needed another distraction in my life, but these guys are pretty funny, and have way more fun than I do making stuff for YouTube.

To The Batmobile!

Holy iconic TV cars Batman! The Adam West Batman series was years into re-runs before I ever started watching it, but once we discovered it we couldn't get enough. Sure it was campy, yes it was over-the-top, of course it was silly. That was the point and everyone knew it. And what kid didn't want to be Batman (or at least Robin) and cruise around in the Batmobile? This version by flailx is one of the best representations of this particular Batmobile I've ever seen.

Green T

I do love an over-the-top hot rod, and without getting gimmicky this is about as over-the-top as you get. This is a 1923 Ford Model T, that's been relieved of it's modest origins and humdrum aesthetics by Norton74. Now it's a killer hot rod, with sweet white on green paint scheme and an insane V-8. Makes me want to go cruisin' to the drive-in.

The Elephant Building

Craftsmanship seems to be all but forgotten these days. When a new building goes up it's generally pretty boring, and in no time at all very dated and falling apart. We just don't build like we used to, with care and pride. Unless we're talking about LEGO buildings of course. Sure there's the usual police stations and houses, but occasionally we get spoiled by something like this absolutely wonderful structure by Sheo. It's not only gorgeous on the outside, it's fully decorated and furnished inside. Click through for more pictures from all it's excellent levels.

Pretty Sneaky Sis

I know I played Connect Four as a kid, but I don't remember owning it, so it must have been at a friends house. I vividly remember the commercial though, and that kid's tragic haircut. Builder jtheels is on a roll with these brilliant little doses of nostalgia. Makes me want to break out my plaid pants and play with GiJoe while eating a peanut butter and relish sandwich (the 70's weren't pretty)

Tea Please

I love tea. I start every day with a cup, I generally have another around 3pm. When it's hot I drink iced tea and when I'm ill it has magical healing properties (along with cinnamon toast). And while I don't store my tea in a box, because I use PG Tips which is unpackaged pyramid bags, or loose tea I store in special tins, I can appreciate a nice storage solution. This tea box by Galaktek would add a sheen of refinement to any tea service in my opinion.

Oktoberfest

As I stated a couple posts back, October is here, and not only does that mean all those things I stated in that post, it also means beer and pretzels. Yes, it's Oktoberfest time, that hailing of the coming of fall and, way back when, the marriage of Crown Price Ludwig. This excellent little vignette by Miro78 captures everything that everyone loves about the event in one charming 10x10 vignette. I love the little details like the mounted deer hear and the cuckoo clock.

The Dolmen

Feast your eyes upon this. When I came upon this stunning MOC by Xenomurphy in my Flickr feed it sort of hit me in waves. First I was looking at the thumbnail and thinking "wow, that's cool" then I viewed the image and went "wait a second, that's not..." then I zoomed in, my eyes bulged, I slowly leaned in and went "whaaaaaaaaaaaa". Seriously, stop reading this and click through and zoom.

It's Getting Scary Around Here

October is here. That means pumpkin spice everything, BrickCon (which I'm not at, boo) and heaps of fun halloween MOCs. This piece by vitreolum is as much art as it is seasonal, and who doesn't enjoy a sexy witch? This style of building, which I'm going to dub "silhousaic" (sill-o-say-ic) has become more and more popular with builders, but vitreolum is setting a new bar recently.
