20K And Counting!

This morning the BrickNerd YouTube channel passed the 20,000 views mark. I know that's not a lot, there's other channels out there that get that on a single video in an hour. But for our crappy little show it's a milestone worth wooting about. Thanks for watching everyone!

Obelix

I've never heard of the comic series Obelix and Asterix, but since it's French, I'm not totally surprised. Seeing this MOC got my interest piqued though. This build by IamKritch seems to capture his character pretty well. And that thing behind him? It's a big rock he carries around for some reason.

The Creature

It would appear those infamous Blacktron baddies are dabbling in genetic engineering. But considering how cool this creature by Rogue Bantha is, I'm kinda OK with it. Check out the multiple layers of spherical awesome that make up the head, amazing.

Scorpion

Check this out, this is some seriously tricky building by LK21LK. 90% of this scorpion is just droid parts, very cleverly connected, and the results are stunning. I particularly like the front claws, they almost look like fists. That tail is pretty deadly looking too.

Scania R500

Admit it, when you first glanced at this you thought it was just a photo of a mondo truck huh? OK, maybe not, this is a LEGO fan site after all. But shooting this thing outdoors with a real background just makes it all the more realistic. But I expect no less from builder legotrucks. His trucks are always hyper realistic and HUGE.

To Fight Monsters, We Created Monsters

Over the holiday break I was finally able to correct a severe nerd oversight, mainly I finally saw Pacific Rim. And now that Moko's awesome collection is complete (I understand that due to lack of decent reference material, Coyote Tango is postponed indefinitely) I can finally blog these amazing little works of absolute badassery.

The Jongleurs Tale

Can anything quite capture the imagination like a classic battle between dragon and knight in shining armor? This may be Dodge's sole entry into CCCXI, but it's excellent. I've seen attempts to convey thought bubbles and stories this way, but I think this is one of the most successful.

Copperhead Steam Powered Bike

As any discerning gentleman knows, getting there in style and reliably is paramount. The Martins Copperhead Steam Powered Bike is as powerful as any $2000 gasoline powered motor vehicle on the market. Two cycle steam generates over eight horses of power and can tops speeds of 15 miles per hour. The Extended saddle comfortable seats one or two. Can be refueled in less than five minutes.

Gruhzak Gur

These orcs know how to party! This is the wooden fortress of the orcs of northern Middle Earth, Gruzak Gur according to builder Disco86. I like to imagine they're celebrating 2014 just like the rest of us, but with with orc style (and maybe some man flesh, they are orcs after all).

An Explosive Experiment

KA-BOOM!

And here I was just trying to enjoy a nice, evening dinner with guests when that old wizard decided to cook something up that wasn't on the menu. Ah well, at least the explosion livened up the dinner conversation a bit.

Excellent work here by Digger1221. I always appreciate a good fireball with corresponding smoke trail. The rest of the build has some great details and wonderful contrast between the Wizard's lab in the basement and the dinning room on the main floor.

Who You Gonna Call?

Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and to bust ghosts. I woke up with the Ghostbusters music stuck in my head. Not that crap Ray Parker Jr. ripoff of Huey Lewis, but the score by Elmer Bernstein. That of course got me thinking about the movie, which inevitably led to props, which led to this, one of my favorite LEGO props ever built. This ghost trap by Profound Whatever makes me smile whenever I see it. Sure the stripes are strait on top, but it's still friggin' awesome.

Toothless

How To Train Your Dragon 2 is nearly here, and to celebrate Stormbringer built this excellent little night fury. I loved the first movie, and I'm looking forward to the second one. I also love this MOC, especially the eyes and head.

Warrior Rose, Graceful Valkyrie

There are a lot of games I haven't played. Honestly I don't get to play much of anything anymore (stupid adult responsibilities) and the popularity of some games honestly baffles me. But not as much as the titles for some games (and characters). This is Warrior Rose, Graceful Valkyrie (huh?) from the game Puzzle & Dragons (double huh?). That aside, this is an excellent MOC from MikeVd. I especially like the shield and the use of the sprue from the leaf parts as a detail.

StarFox

Bruce Lowell gets it. He understands the true level of awesome that is Nintendo. He's also a pretty excellent builder as you can see with this sweet rendition of the Arwing fighter from StarFox. Now if he was only a time lord and could go back and do something about the console crime that was StarFox Adventures, if only... 

The Blacksmith's Son

Here's another stellar submission for CCCXI. The Classic Castles Contest always brings out the best in builders, but this year seems to be especially good. There have been so many amazing MOCs. I love the attention to details in this one, from the window boxes to the well it's just packed with little nuggets of awesome. Nice work Atte!

That's A Big Crane

It's positively colossal! This minifig scale Liebherr crane took builder [maks] over six months to build, and I can believe it. At over 27" long and weighing in at over 4 pounds, it's the biggest mini fig scale vehicle I've ever seen. I would love to see this monster in person.

Aleph I Corsair

It's been a while since we've featured a cool, classic mech. And since I finally saw Pacific Rim last night (yeah, yeah, I know nerdfail) the timing is perfect for this awesome MOC by  spook. I really like the contouring on this, it has obvious cool looks, but also has a practicality to the design that makes it appealing. And that gun is just bitchin'. 

The Source Of Eternal Life

Now wouldn't this be a fun little discovery while trekking through the woods? Minding your own business and suddenly there's a fountain of youth right there in front of you. This is a excellent example of creative lighting to truly make a MOC. Using LED lighting strips, markus19840420 under lit the water in this scene. That twisted trunk on the center tree is really cool too.

Lake Town

I've been a bad nerd this holiday season, I have yet to see The Desolation of Smaug. But, boy does this Lake Town build put me in the mood to see the movie!

When building within the castle color palette of grays and browns things can look a little washed out and boring.  It takes a lot of work to make something unique that's truly stands out and that is exactly builder Fedin has pulled off. Now if someone could only convince him to make even more of the city.

Cyclopean Warbots

You can always count on builder Karf Oohlu to show you ways to use parts you never would have imagined. We've seen mini fig helmets used as shoulders before, but have you ever seen them combined with rotary saws to build a console? The scale of this MOC is fun too, with microfigs in a diorama.
