In that sense, it feels a lot like creating LEGO models—which is definitely an art Marius Herrmann has mastered. Marius, widely known as steponabrick both on Flickr and Instagram has shared an entry for Brickset’s ongoing Build a Bonsai competition—an expressive and lifelike sculpture, making masterful use of a variety of elements and beautiful techniques.

A little over a year ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we were introduced to a little green—yet 50-year-old—foster child with an insatiable appetite for just about anything it could cram down its throat. By now, you know who I am talking about. It’s “The Child” from the Disney Plus streaming Star Wars show The Mandalorian. Even after two seasons, mysteries still cloud this little creature who we now know is named Grogu. (Really? Grogu?) No matter what you want to call it, Grogu, Baby Yoda or The Child, it clearly stole the spotlight. Sorry, Mando.

Brickvention 2021: An Online LEGO Convention from Down Under

Brickvention is Australia's premier LEGO fan event and is typically held each January. As a founding and former member of the organizing team behind the event, it holds a special place in my heart. It started in 2006 after the Australian AFOL community on LUGNET requested a regular event in their own country—quite the task at the time. With humble beginnings of fewer than 50 AFOLs in attendance, Brickvention has since become a popular event for Australian AFOLs and regularly attracts local and international visitors.

Nerdly Strikes Back Contest!

A long time ago, in a suburban cul-de-sac far, far away, from me at least, the idea of a new LEGO blog was created. Tommy-Wan, I mean, Williamson, started BrickNerd and built its iconic Nerdly brick. Complete with taped glasses, the Nerdly has been customized from its humble 2x2 red brick origins to just about every character and theme you can imagine. And I can imagine quite a bit!

Now that the BrickNerd saga is back, there’s a New Hope that a contest of building skill and creativity will Awaken a Force of enthusiasm for the site among its readers and contributors.

Castles – in some way, shape or form – are probably one of the most common sights in the LEGO fan community. I can still remember being a young kid sitting in my room playing with, in my opinion, one of the best sets ever (Kings Castle 6080). Given how many talented castle-builders there are in the AFOL community, there is a good chance I’m not the only one with fond memories like that! Regardless if someone is talking about LEGO conventions or just browsing through their Flickr or Instagram feed, chances are more than a few great castle builds are going to show up. Castles have been crucial to the development of the LEGO fan community over time, starting with the original yellow castle (6075) to the iconic Classic Castle community and beyond.
