Sharp eyed viewers might have spotted him in this video of our biggest setup (he's the one wearing glasses). Well the team at How It Should Have Ended recruited him as well, and who better to determine how The LEGO Movie *should* have ended?

Time for another story. Way back when I used to work in creature effects, doing make-up and animatronics. And if you didn't know, it's a really toxic business. Combine that with the awesome air in Los Angeles in the late 80's/early 90's and my poor lungs wanted to leap out of my chest and retreat back to the central coast. I ended up really sick, like close to pulmonary shutdown, and a doctor said "you want to live to be 30? Change your industry and leave this town". This hauntingly beautiful MOC by Kosmas Santosa sorta reminds me of a few lovely spots in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Update: I switched to digital visual effects, moved to Lompoc CA and got much better pretty quick.

De Ruyter

I don't know all that much about tall ships, but I know I like them. And I especially like this vessel by Swan Dutchman. It's not exactly what you would call 'purist', with non LEGO sails and rigging. But sometimes you need to go beyond the official elements when there's an aesthetic and accuracy you're going for. And in this case, they almost outshine the bricks, gorgeous! The photography and processing is top notch too, this is the total package.

Kick Buttowski

Kick Buttowski, just your average everyday suburban daredevil. He fears nothing, except maybe the scorn of his older brother. This version by Guilherme Lima looks ready to shred. I dig the chunky style and beefy part use.

Isn't That Cute...Wait, What?

So, the first thing you looked at was the cute crab right? Brightly colored with big eyes and an adorable pose, it's eye catching. Then you looked to the right and thought "now what the heck is...oh". It's awesome and gruesome in one post, well played Legohaulic, well played.

Ludo

Jim Henson has been on my mind a lot lately. With the Creature Shop Challenge on Sy-Fy I find myself thinking back fondly on not only my time in creature effects, but also on some of my favorite movies of all time. Ludo here from Labyrinth was an amazing character, larger than life with a heart of gold. This version by Centuri is a pretty fitting tribute.

Thwack!

Chameleons are fascinating creatures. I mean think about it, they change colors, have independent eyes, can hit a target 1.5 times it's length away with it's tongue and has the craziest hands and feet. They also make excellent models as demonstrated by Littlehaulic here.

BrickNerd Episode 205

Finally finished with animation duties for Beyond The Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary so I have finally been able to shoot a new episode. Featuring the amazing new LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler and tacos!

Batman

I really like this version of Batman from MortalSwordsman. The contouring, color selection and pose-ability are really impressive, with simple broad-stroke shapes and just enough detail to sell it. The bat shaped base completes it, but the head is my favorite part.

Is The Munsters On?

When I was a kid we only got six channels, and in the evening the same thing was on three of them. And color was around, but those TVs were expensive so B&W was way more common. And I Love Lucy seemed to be on every time we turned it on (or Leave it to Beaver, ugh). And if you held the antenna, and lifted a leg, you could *almost* get that episode of Twilight Zone. Oh, and we had remotes back then, ours was named Tommy. Regardless, this classic TV by Powerpig still manages to make me nostalgic.

I Don't Like Sushi

Me: "I don't care for sushi"

Typical Friend: "You just haven't had good sushi"

Me: "No really, I don't like it"

Typical Friend: "C'mon, just try this, it's awesome. Trust me."

Me: "well...ok, fine"

Tries sushi, doesn't like it.

(that being said, I do like this sushi form Moko)

VTOL Gunship

This looks right out of a James Cameron movie. It's part apache, part harrier, part drop ship and all badass. I especially love the "remove before flight" tags on the weapons. I'm not sure if it's purist LEGO, but I don't care, it's a cool detail.

Hey! Listen!

As if there was any doubt I'd blog this. I know how you feel Link, Navi could be a bit of a nudge sometimes, but always well-meaning. This MOC by Legohaulic seems to have been in direct response to a MOC by Iron Builder rival Siercon and Coral. Yeah, it's on like Donkey Kong! (or at least Zelda). Fun fact, my alert sound on my phone is Navi saying "hey!"

Batwing

One of the best characters in The LEGO Movie was Batman in my humble opinion. And of course he had to have the best transportation. The highly accurate version of the Batwing from Brickmasta looks awesome, and really needs to be an official set (in fact, I'm really surprised it isn't). Nicely done.

Under The Sea

Disney's The Little Mermaid is one of my wife's favorite movies, so I was instantly drawn to this MOC by Karf Oohlu. It's not terribly complex, mostly just a bunch of crabs stuck together. But the use of the flame pieces and striking colors against a nice blue background makes this a visually appealing piece. Simple, but very effective.

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Batman!

KAPOW! Check out this awesome Batmobile Cuusoo project of the classic 60's Batman. I can't decide what I love the most about this, that it's classic Adam West campiness, the design itself or the fact that it all started with a dad building a Batmobile for his daughter so Robin could ride along too. Regardless I want one, and if you want one too let's all support this project and make it a reality!
