Christmas Village

/

I'm running out of doors to open on my Star Wars advent calendar, it smells like gingerbread in my kitchen and the corgis keep knocking ornaments off the tree, we must be close to Christmas day. Another hint is the loads of holiday themed LEGO creations on Flickr, like this absolutely fabulous winter village by builder nolphiplays. Not only is it a charming and inviting large scale diorama, it's got a working train and it's positively brimming with scale lighting from Brickstuff. Check out the video and click through for loads more pictures of this amazing MOC.

Santa's Little Helper, Helper, HELPER!

/

Christmas is celebrated all over the galaxy, and since it's a big place, naturally Santa needs a hand from time to time. Luckily he's got Benny, who seems to love Christmas almost as much as spaceships. Benny has quite the sleigh, in fashionable classic space colors. And who needs flying reindeer when you have four turbo engine pods? Rudolph approves.

The House From A Christmas Story Reaches 10k

/

Just in time for lovely, glorious Christmas (around which the entire kid year revolves) this LEGO Ideas campaign by twrt0es has reached the 10,000 mark! This means we may all soon have a chance to own this amazing reproduction of Ralphie's house. It may not be an official Red Ryder 200 shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time, but I'd certainly love one of these sets under the tree. Fingers crossed!

Let's Do Some Grillin'

/

David Zambito provides us with an excellent example of a vignette. Small build, but packed with techniques that make a large difference. In this scene, a man is grilling his dinner (an activity I'm sure some of us wish we could be doing right now). What drew me to this little build is that grill, which is an excellent design (see separate picture below). So simple, but so effective, and one of the best I've seen. The builder also didn't settle for a simple tile patio, instead he chose to use slopes and tiles to create some great stonework, a rather popular technique. It's the little things that can turn a small build into one that leaves a big impression!

Nathaniel Stoner

My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations).

When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here.

Luke, This Weapon Is Your Life

/

You can never have too many LEGO lightsaber models, and Takamichi Irie is adding another to the growing collection that we've featured here on BrickNerd. As Obi-Wan himself has said, it's an "elegant weapon, for a more civilized age." No Jedi is complete without his iconic weapon, and I'm sure Luke Skywalker himself would be proud of this model.

Intergalactic

/

I recognized this instantly when I saw it, did you? It's the giant robot from one of the greatest music videos of all time, Intergalactic by The Beastie Boys. The B-boys' music videos have run the gamut of barely watchable to downright masterpieces, this video falls into the later category along with Ch-Check It Out and of course Sabotage. Intergalactic is by far my favorite and this MOC by Cpt. Brick just made my day.

I haven't seen Cars 3 yet, so I was a bit mystified by this crazy school bus by builder LEGO 7. Mystified and intrigued, and after a quick google search and a YouTube rabbit hole, I want to see the movie, if for nothing else than to see the demolition derby scene. And while I'm not very familiar with the character, it's plainly obvious he totally nailed the look with this MOC.

Lexus LFA

/

I'll do my best Jeremy Clarkson impersonation for this...

Lexus, you might say it's just an amped up Toyota. And I might say that Beyonce is just a dished up lounge singer. We'd both be wrong. For decades Lexus has been pushing the boundaries of both sex appeal and power, and redefining what we can expect from a super car. Gone are the days of sacrificing comfort and convenience for raw power and good looks, now you can have both.

You totally read that in his voice didn't you? Anyway, check out this sweet rendition of the LFA by builder Noah_L. While he laments the amount of studs on the hood (I agree, we need wedge tiles LEGO) I think it makes it look more like an official set.

Kadavo Escape

/

With a new addition to his Ring Worlds collection, Inthert is back with an incredible model for his ongoing collection of Star Wars scenes. This particular scenario was shown in The Clone Wars TV series (RIP), where a Republic light cruiser flies underneath a Zygerrian slave facility in order to rescue the captives. This arc of episodes on the show was very interesting, and this model is just outstanding. Not only is the base provided with excellent detailing and an almost sinister appearance, but the cruiser is one of the most accurate ones I have seen. Simply excellent work. Inthert's ring worlds always make me geek out for a few minutes...

The BrickFormers Contest

/

Are you a Transformers fan? Have you ever thought about building your own, fully transformable figure from the Transformers universe? Well, now's your chance! PsychoBrick is hosting his very own contest for the purpose of testing your skills as a Transformer designer. Each contestant must design a single, functioning Transformers figure. This contest is open to anyone in the world, but unfortunately the prize (which is very cool, I might add) will only be shipped to a winner in the U.S. Contest ends on January 17th! If you're interested in participating, check out the contest's Flickr Group, or visit PsychoBrick's YouTube channel for rules and information!

The Throbbing In Your Head

/

Sheo. has produced numerous creations with an interesting style to them. To me, they're examples of LEGO modern art pieces. This model, simply captioned "Headache," is quite interesting to think about after knowing the name of the creation. Perhaps this is really what's going on when our heads begin to hurt? A very interesting MOC to display, for sure!

Christmas With Batman And Harley

/

Even superheroes celebrate the holidays, but what do they give each other, especially with a relationship as complicated as Batman's and Harley's? Well according to builder vir-a-cocha Harley knows just what to get the caped crusader, batarangs and a grappling hook. And that looks like a huge hammer for Harley, they know each other so well.

Christmas Eve For Batman and Harley

Ho Ho Huh?

/

Christmas is less than a week away, and Ochre Jelly is getting into the spirit (well, sorta). Meet the Humbugz, adorable lumps of unattractiveness from the north pole. In the proud tradition of REJECTZ, these are so far beyond ugly they somehow become cute again. With teeth like that I'm not sure Santa could even eat a cookie, but I can assure you everyone's getting a lump of coal.

F15 Eagle Comin' In...

/

According to builder Kai NRG/Geneva, his own grandfather helped develop the F15 Eagle. There can't be a more appropriate reason to take on building a model of this fighter jet, and I think Kai produced a magnificent model that I'd love to hang from my ceiling! The subtle angle of the wings, the excellent cockpit area (which is not easy at this scale, I might add), and the inclusion of some interesting choice in elements combine together to create this creation. I see no reason why Kai's grandfather could not be proud of this design.

Wanna Build a Snowman, Bats?!

/

A bit more ominous winter creations...but an interesting (and perhaps even funny) one at that. Here we see Joker himself have a bit of playful fun, crafting his very own themed snowman. Though it may look innocent on the outside, I'm sure on the inside there's quite a bit of explosives and Joker cards just waiting to be released. A very interesting build by Sad Brick.

Slick Sleigh

/

Of course, Santa is not complete without his elegant sleigh to carry presents to children around the world! The month of December is also never complete without several Christmas sleigh designs. This one in particular, built by BrickinNick, reminds me of the one we see in The Polar Express film. This sleigh is elegant, but also looks solid enough to hold the weight of those gifts (plus some milks and cookies, I'm sure). The only thing missing here are some reindeer. Perhaps it's dinner time for them?

Here Comes Santa Claus

/

Christmas is just over a week away, so preparations at the North Pole have to be absolutely frantic. And with the growing world population of kids (and adult kids like me) means that Santa has just a few more visits every year. Luckily builder Norton74 has a solution to this, by souping up the sleigh into a hot rod. Though the flight characteristics are not clear, on the snow it looks like it really moves.

Flatbed

There's just something about vehicles from the 50's isn't there? I realize automotive designs are always in motion, and fads come and go, but there was something about the sensibilities of 50's design that seems so inviting and eye pleasing. Even something as utilitarian as this truck by redfern1950s2 feels like more than just a practical service vehicle, it's got character.
