Various Variants OHP-S

I’ve been a sci-fi fan my whole life, almost as long as Tommy has. I’ve also followed the progress of actual space exploration, from the Voyager missions, to the Space Shuttle, to the ISS. Throughout that, there’s always been talk of the private exploration of space, especially space tourism and space mining. And every year it seems to be getting closer to reality. So when I saw these workhorse ships by Finn Roberts, which include some serious physics explanations behind their structure, function and propulsion, it makes the future not-so distant.

Plus they’re really cool!

A Little Patch Of Blue

With all the chaos and stress associated with the modern world, I sometimes wish we could go back to a simpler life, just living off of nature with constant and peaceful freedom. But then I remember that the great outdoors is not my forte, with things like mosquitos (eww) and diseases (double eww). I guess I’ll just stick to enjoying the jungle through this image by MassEditor.

New Ventures

It seems that the 1980’s classic spacemen have developed a sense of entrepreneurship and have decided to expand their ventures into space mining. With a crew this large and a fearsome machine, it is unquestionable that Andreas Lenander’s astronauts are on their way in making a multimillion credit business. It would seem that their skin color has also changed. Weird. Probably all that alien space dust.

Coffee?

I can tell you quite confidently that if I was cruising down the road and I spotted this cafe by builder Norton74 I would be tempted, in fact I might not even be able to override the autopilot of my truck. I love diners like these, it’s my favorite breakfast. Give me some bacon, scrambled eggs and morning fries any day of the week! Oh, but I’ll take that with tea please.

GR440 III

Builder Vince_Toulouse with another exceptional vehicle. This one looks like the result of a passionate night with a Blade Runner Spinner and a Tron cycle, with a tiny bit of art deco thrown in. And yes, if you’re inspecting that engine thinking “isn’t that a troll arm?” you are absolutely correct. This thing might struggle with corners, but who cares if you can roll down the street in such style.

Off-World Colonization Assessment Team

When you hear the term “micro build” it instantly conjure images of tiny structures tediously built at a very small scale. But what if you’re building something that is in it’s very nature massive, like a planet? Then even if it’s micro, it's still pretty big. That’s the case with this MOC by builder justin_m_winn, it’s massively micro, and you need to see all the pictures to get the details, click through for more.

The Epic Climax Of Return Of The Jedi

Spoiler alert, the Empire has built a second Death Star. And what do you do when the Empire builds a large doomsday machine? You blow it up. This excellent MOC by builder did b depicts the epic battle at the climax of ROTJ, where three simultaneous conflicts happen, Luke fights Darth Vader, the rebel fleet takes on the Imperial fleet, and a bunch of teddy bears kick some stormtrooper butt. And of course Lando and Wedge fly right into the Death Star, and cause just a little havoc.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

It’s a challenge dating back ages, an eternal struggle between the forces of flat, heavy and pointy, the decisive battle that can resolve any dispute, it’s ro-sham-bo, better known as rock, paper, scissors. Builder Adam Dodge has visualized this conflict in pretty much the best way ever.

Visual Arts

Just lay your eyes on this beautiful, Alphonso Mucha inspired creation by Pate-keetongu. I’m not going to even attempt to cobble some words together up here to describe or interpret it, it’s just serve as distraction. I’m just going to invite to gaze at her like I’ve been doing for whole minutes now, gorgeous.

The Heart Of The Home

The kitchen is the heart of the home, I’m sitting in mine at this very moment (most of the blog posts happen right here in my kitchen/breakfast nook). It’s where we prepare meals, and where every party seems to end up, probably because the food is there. Builder MarcelV was challenged by the fine humans at New Elementary to come up with some innovative uses for the Brickheadz glasses part, can you spot them in this excellent interior? OK, that was easy, now look for the other pair.

Houses In Barqa

This fantasy scene by Jonas Wide is so well made and designed that I mistook it for a recreation of an actual European town at first (until I saw the Orc with a cane). So many cool details, like the brickwork on the houses, the big pots in the alleyway, the market, and the excellent usage of micro scale lights to create a mood.

The Abduction

You don’t need a lot of bricks to make a creative MOC. This build by Tom Gerardin depicting an alien abduction in some metropolitan city is a perfect example. Love the little tank, but the highlight is the usage of the new Giraffe Guy collectible minifig’s snout as an alien head. Brilliant!

Mac Tonight

Recognize this guy? It’s Mac, McDonald’s mascot from the 80’s and the breakout role of everyone’s favorite unknown actor, Doug Jones. Doug and I have had multiple intersections in our careers, having both worked on many projects including Hocus Pocus, Good vs Evil and Pan’s Labyrinth. These days you can see him as Saru on Star Trek Discovery, he’s a terrific actor and a genuinely awesome guy. Builder bruceywan must have been craving cheeseburgers this week, and totally nailed this build.

The Personal Stereo That Rocked The World

I consider myself lucky that my lifespan happened to be sliced out of history where it is. I’ve seen so many things: The transition of film to digital, the rise of the personal computer, the connecting of the world through the internet, four different television formats and so much more. I was just discovering music when bands like Run-DMC, Van Halen, Micheal Jackson, Beastie Boys, The B-52’s and so many more were at peak popularity. And I was there for this, the Sony Walkman (and it’s many, many copycats). These days everyone in the world has every song ever recorded at their fingertips whenever they want, so it’s really hard to imagine how this simple device rocked our world. We could take our music with us, wherever we went, and blast it without disturbing others, it was awesome. Thank you Ralf Langer for a little bit of nostalgia.

Did Someone Request A Hoarder Of Souls?

For the past seven years builders Ben Cossy and Eli Brinsmead have collaborated for Brickvention Australia. The thing is though, they live on opposite sides of Australia, which is a BIG place. So it’s only through careful communication that their collabs work, because they aren’t brought together until the convention. And work they do, either build is a stunning piece on it’s own, but together they’re showstoppers. Click through for more pictures and keep an eye out for upcoming videos featuring this amazing collaboration.

The Passing Of King Henry VIII

Builder and history buff peggyjdb is back with another stellar build and a fascinating history lesson. There’s a reason Henry VIII is still a household name, he was larger than life. But even the largest of lives must come to an end, and this scene depicts his final hours in Whitehall Palace. Click through to learn something.

Little Helper

Having never watched DuckTales (sorry, came along a little late for me) or read a Donald Duck comic I had no idea who this character by builder lummerlander was, but I was intrigued. One google search later and now I know, and he’s pretty cool. I could use this little guy in the workshop of Nerds&Makers, where I get into my non-LEGO mischief.

Lonely Polar Bear

It’s not often a MOC can elicit an emotional reaction from me, but this polar bear by LEGO7 certainly did. The form and silhouette are excellent, and conveys the feeling of isolation quite well. Poor guy. I suppose a Coca-cola won’t help much?

Nian

It might be just a little early for Chinese New Year, but this monster Nian was built for a contest so we get to celebrate just a bit early. According to myth the Nian lives under the sea or mountain, and comes out every new year to feast, mostly on crops but sometimes children, fun stuff. I have it under good authority that this particular Nian was hiding in the LEGO bins of builder Legopard.

Long Hao Temple

I’m looking at this latest creation by builder jaapxaap and my mind is as bent as that roof! According to the description it’s the most complex roof he’s ever done, and I can believe it. In fact, I can’t fathom how it’s built. Purple, gold and grey, along with a splash of other colors, make for an eye catching combination. And it’s nice to see some tilted timbers construction in a clean, non castle build.
