It took me a few minutes to wrap my head around these (and to be honest, I'm not sure I truly have yet). Builder Izzo Yossi has created a trio of drones that go to the next level. Each is impressive on it's own, but it also has a companion that is also not only a drone on it's own, but can be attached and worn as accessories to increase capability (yeah, mind blowing). Do yourself a favor and click through for more pics, it's worth it.
Last week I went to a taping of one of my favorite shows, @midnight. After the taping I met Chris Hardwick and gave him my MOC of him. On last night's show he gave me a huge shout out. That was pretty awesome. If you're in LA and can get to a taping, it's really fun.
This is so freakin' adorable. From builder eldeeem comes the iconic Owly from the book series by Andy Runton. The pose, shapes and spirit of this MOC captures Owly perfectly, you just want to pick him up and hug him.
Builder JonHall18 has taken to the skies again, and as usual the results are stunning. The camo pattern on this craft may seem impossible, but through clever use of dark brown bricks and matching stickers, the effect is not only possible, it's perfect. More pics to follow soon, but I had to share this one in the mean time.
This MOC, inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time, The Empire Strikes Back, make me happy and confused at the same time. Of course anything Star Wars gives me a warm fuzzy, so that explains the happiness. But why Bossk has been seemingly replaced by Han Solo is totally baffling to me. Explain yourself Burglarhobbit.
Update: It turns out part of the contest this was submitted to dictated that you include "yourself" in the MOC. So this is Burglarhobbit, dressed as Han Solo, making a cameo (I'm sure it still confused Vader to no end).
In the future, if we have giant mechs like this one from kwi-chang roaming the battlefield, you can be sure that the ones that are brightly colored were built to kick some serious butt. There is something to be said for camouflage, it keeps you somewhat hidden until you're ready to fight. But then again if you're a twelve stories tall heavily armed bipedal mech, there's really no place to "blend in".
During my time in London I worked in Soho, and from time to time I would pass a small black pump thingy on the sidewalk without giving it a second thought. Then one day I read the plaque on it. It turns out it was the focus of infection in the 1854 Cholera outbreak. Builder peggyjdb recreates this pivotal moment in disease control in his usual informative and brilliant style. Ah to be a Londoner in the 1800's.
They've been a long time coming, but STUDS cards are now available! I was very excited to be featured in series 1, and honored to help make these a reality with some photography and photo editing. I originally covered these last year on my fourth episode of BrickNerdTV, and they are finally available to order online. Head over and snag some!
The fine humans at Toy Break took some time yesterday to open a few packs and show off all the goodies. Have a watch...
I'm not totally certain, but I think Oche Jelly just won SHIPtember, or at least figured out the ultimate workaround. He also combined it with GARCvember and NeoClassicSpaceruary, just in the name of efficiency I'm sure. This WIP shot is also his final, so he won't have to keep us updated as well. Unfortunately he didn't address NERDvember, which is totally going to be a thing.
This is a strange, but curiously attractive ship by builder .Tromas. At first I couldn't figure out what I was looking at, besides a nicely lit and shot MOC. But as I looked more closely the forms and angles became more clear. I can actually see this as an advantage in space combat, as your enemy has a little trouble determining your attitude and direction of travel. It's also got some light effects and a cool rear-access cockpit module. Check out the video.
As a kid of the eighties, we were all fairly convinced this was our inevitable future. Between The Day After, Road Warrior, Terminator and, well, the nightly news, we were sure the bombs were going to drop any day. Thankfully calmer heads prevailed (for now) and we're not forced to roam the wastelands in search of gasoline and fighting off mutants (at least those of us not in Fresno). But it's fun to imagine, and MOCs like this one from Gabe Umland paint a bleak picture.
The promise of mechanization and robotics is labor saving and improving life, but it can also kick ass. Take the Lumberjack 4000 by davekaleta, for instance. Sure you can eviscerate an entire orchard in no time flat, but you can also do it riding this baby and a screaming WOOOOOO the whole time.
Treasure Island is an awesome book, it's inspired dozens of movies, TV shows and other entertainment. And now it has inspired builder vitreolum to create one of the most exciting scenes, the attack on Flint's fort. I love the construction of the fort, very rustic and utilitarian, as it should be.
This is a prime example of compact size, nice part use and innovative design from the prolific Karf Oohlo. When I built the Tremor Track Infiltrator I knew we'd be seeing some cool MOCs using the fists of Tremor, and I was correct. Of course I didn't envision a micro scale ship, but Karf was there to enlighten me. Combine those with the donut round tile, the ice skates and the lever bases, this is a whole lot of cool building in a small package.
Are you a fan of brick films? Well, here's some great news, there's a Kickstarter Project from director Phillip Heinrich and producers Doug Vandegrift, Nathan Wells and Zach Macias called Bricks In Motion. With our help these filmmakers can create a full length documentary about the fascinating world of LEGO animation. It's only be a few days and they're already over half way there. Show them some support!

I find it fascinating seeing characters before seeing the movie. Until you see them in action and get to know them in the context of a story, they're strangers. Take Baymax here from Disney's Big Hero 6, in just a few short weeks we can look back on this post and it will feel completely different since he'll then be known to us, a friend. Nice build Cole.
Mashups are nothing new, just ask the ancient Greeks, they were combining animals way before it was cool. The griffin has the back end and tail of a lion, and the front end and head of an eagle. The king of the beasts and the king of the sky in one animal, marvelously realized by lisqr.
Being a California native, and fan of it's proud Mexican heritage, I've always had a soft spot for Zorro. Not just for his badass costume and swordsmanship, but for his championship of the people. I'm not a huge fan of the early films and TV series (too many white guys) but the books are great. I've always loved his willingness to not only defeat the bad guys, but to publicly shame them at the same time. This MOC by TheBrickAvenger captures the mood and chivalry of the legend perfectly, well done.
