Time Is Running Out!

If there's two things going on at my house, it's Christmas and Corgis. We have two Pembroke corgis at our house, Teemo and Lulu. Teemo is tan and white, and loves Christmas, just like this absolutely adorable creation by BrickinNick. I just tried to take a picture of Teemo wearing a Santa hat to share with you all, it didn't go well.
I love a good old theater, one that was built with the full theatrical experience in mind, when craftsmanship mattered. I love it even more when modern day people acknowledge the importance of an old theater and take steps to preserve it. This is the State Theater in Hong Kong, built by Alanboar and his friend Mythbot. The model was built as part of the conservation efforts to save the classic theater. You can view many more pictures, including the fully decked out interior and read more about the project at Alanboar's website.
Space is a dangerous place. Let's face it, without a significant amount of technology humans would simply be frozen meatsicles floating around the void. Luckily we're reasonably clever, and in the future we can look forward to tooling around distant planet surfaces in machines like this awesome behemoth by hhcBrick. I don't know what they're collecting and I don't care, I just want to go for a ride.
The description of this MOC by is so interesting I will let builder Dread Pirate Wesley speak for himself.
The Sopwith Camel is one of the most famous aircraft ever built. It holds a special place in history as the most successful allied aircraft of the Great War. It also as a unique distinction of having killed more of its own pilots than enemy aircraft did by virtue of its difficult handling characteristics in the hands of unskilled pilots. Still, the unstable flight characteristics made for an extremely agile fighter in the hands of a seasoned pilot.
I love Disneyland almost as much as Christmas (or is it the other way around?) so when the two are combined I am automatically happy. If you've never visited Disneyland during the holidays you're missing out, it's the most magical time of the year at the happiest place on earth, plus they have gingerbread men. Toy soldiers have been walking in the parade since the early 60's and are always a crowd favorite. Thanks Swan Dutchman for a little holiday and Disney cheer!
Porgs, they are primed and ready to be a love it/hate it aspect of Star Wars The Last Jedi. I for one think they are kinda cute, but am honestly a bit leery. But I swore to reserve judgement until I see the movie, and I will. Regardless if you love them or hate them, you gotta admit they're probably good eatin', at least ewoks think so (and so does Ochre Jelly).
All you need for a religion is an idea and a bunch of people to agree that's a pretty good idea. Who's to say we can't worship a robot deity? And if we did, why not recognize some robots as saints? That seems to be the inspiration behind this collaboration between Djokson, Kingmarshy, Lord-Oblivion, Anthony (The Secret Walrus) Wilson, The Chosen One and Disty.
I was just sitting here lamenting my LEGO Star Wars advent calendar (I've recognized one thing so far and the box keeps ripping) when I discovered this absolutely stunning advent calendar from kjm161. And if you think the outside is impressive, not only does it have a daily surprise for the countdown to Christmas, it's got a fully detailed and richly decorated interior. You owe it to yourself to click through and check out the many pictures of this wonderful holiday MOC.
Humans sure take a lot of pride being "top of the food chain", but I can assure you it's only because we're slightly more clever and built cities and houses. Drop most modern day people off in the middle of nowhere and they'll quickly figure out where they stand, especially if there's bears around. And this is nothing new, as illustrated in this hilarious MOC by lummerlander. You would think after tens of thousands of years we'd learn...nope.
I might be skewing this a bit more to the holidays than intended, I'm in a christmasy mood. But really, with that much pearl gold, silver and chrome, I could see Santa screaming around the north pole in this beast by redfern1950s2. Well, that is if he could squeeze into it. With a chop that aggressive he might have to roll Big Daddy Roth style, if you know what I mean.
I'll say it, Han Solo's DL-44 blaster is the coolest weapon of Star Wars (fight me!) and besides one of the screen used props or truly accurate prop replicas the coolest form of DL-44 has to be in LEGO. Adam Savage and Norm Chan think so too, and recently picked up kits from DemonHunterBricks on Etsy. In this video from Tested they build them, after showing off some other cool LEGO prop weapons, you might recognize one of them.
Back in September when I visited the Tested headquarters to build the Millennium Falcon I gave a phaser to Norm. Seeing the disappointment on Adam's face I promised him one too. And last month when I went to see Tested: Deconstructed I was able to meet up with Adam after the show and present it to him, with a nifty little display stand.
I was delighted to see it at the start of this video.
I remember a Red Sonja movie (at least I think I remember it) I remember not liking it much. And as you know I'm not much of a comic reader so I really don't know much about her. And I'm to irritated from a day-long wait for a shipment from Billund and wheezy from all the smoke to bother to research her. I'll just be ignorant and admire this bust from builder vitreolum. Yeah, I said "bust", what of it?
The snowspeeder is one of my favorite Star Wars ships. It's angular design and no-nonsense style always appealed to me. There's been many attempts to build it this small (just look at all the Star Wars advent calendars) but I think this one by Rogue Bantha is the most successful I've seen. Built for the Star Wars building contest on Brickset.
If you weren't actively looking for cool LEGO creations you might not even give this picture by Anthony SÉJOURNÉ a second look. From the thumbnail it just looks like a well photographed bar of soap. But look closer and you see it's a very clever build. While it's not going to get your hands any cleaner, it's certainly a clean build.
One thing everyone knows about Komodo dragons is they're big, really big, the biggest lizards on the planet. What you may not realize about this brick-built version by d' Qiu Brick is that it's pretty much actual size (for a small Komodo dragon they can grow up to 9 feet!). Click through for pictures with a minifig for scale and prepare to be stunned.
I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking at when I spied Vince Toulouse's latest creation. Yeah, clearly it's a high-tech tram. But with a front-loader washing machine on the third level? Or is it a Minion? Whatever, it's pretty frakin' cool! Check out Vince's photostream to see all the nifty details, especially his notations on the various Duplo and Fabuland pieces that when into this build. Slick!
I was fortunate enough to see this wonderfully whimsical piece by Brickbaron in person at BrickCon. I was also honored with an official party animal sheep head from Paul, one of 50 he gave out at the convention. Toward the end of the con all of the party animals gathered for a photo op (I'm on the right, making the usual stupid face). What a fantastic way to celebrate the yearly reunion of friends and brighten everyone's day, thanks Paul!
For those that didn't know, I have a particular fond spot for bad movies. Not Michael Bay bad, but Ed Wood bad. Those movies that are made with earnestness and heart, but no competency or clue. The kind of films that end up the subjects of MST3K and Rifftrax. One of those movies is The Room, and epically bad film from Tommy Wiseau, which happens to be the subject of a new film called the Disaster Artist, and consequently this brilliant MOC from Ochre Jelly.
Hey all you nerds, we've compiled all the results and the votes are in, we have our 2017 Nerdvember winners. There were so many awesome entries this year, and it was very difficult to narrow them down to three. But here they are in order...
In first place: NerdTron by Oky - Space Ranger
Like every year we can always expect the heavy hitters at the last minute, and every year I'm blown away. I didn't see this entry until I woke up the next morning, and the grin was ear to ear. What a fantastic mashup of Nerdly, Voltron and iconic vehicles of the 80's, well played sir, well played.
In second place: Bob Ross by Palixa And The Bricks
This was no "happy accident". Bob Ross taught millions to paint, and inspired this brilliant entry. And if the name sounds familiar, it's because Palixa And The Bricks won second place last year as well (always the bridesmaid...).
In third place: Nerdis Brickler's Day Off by Ochre Jelly
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is an all-time favorite movie of mine, and is there anything more quintessentially 80's? It's one of those movies that you start watching no matter what scene it is. Bueller...Bueller....Bueller...
Honorable mentions...
I wish I could send prizes to everyone that entered, you're all amazing. But these entries got a lot of votes too and deserve to be acknowledged.
I'd like send a huge thank you out to the judges this year. There were so many amazing entries it was NOT easy to narrow it down, they did not have an easy job and I appreciate their time. And of course it's not much of a contest without prizes so I'd like to send totally tubular thumbs up to all of the sponsors, you're rad!
Thank you all for a totally bitchin' Nerdvember, see you next year!
