Size Matters Not!

Full disclosure: builder John Stephens is a contributor to this group blog of ours, but that alone doesn't disqualify him from having his always quality MOCs written up on this site. Using those 4x4 round plates as bases for his "Pocket Heroes" collection, John's latest creations are somewhat reminiscent of the forthcoming LEGO Dimensions series. And with creative use of smaller elements like t-nozzles, battle droid torsos, cheese slopes and round 1x1 tiles, these little bots prove that Yoda's old adage is true! 

The Floating Island Of Todaidh Beag

This is stunning work. Behold the floating island of Todaidh Beag (no idea how to pronounce that) by Cesbrick. This is a top notch combination of mad building skills, excellent color use, fantastic tilted timber construction, whimsical subject matter, stellar photography and well done photo editing. They call me the Seeker...

One of my perennial favorite mecha builders, Lu Sim, has upgraded an older frame, and I must say the results are stunning. Everything here looks functional, and the long range rifle looks capable of dishing out some serious hurt. I also love that the builder takes the time to craft an excellent backstory and loadout, something that adds a lot of extra flair to his builds.

Princess Kushana

I'm afraid I haven't seen Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, so I can't speak on this figure by Pate-keetongu with much authority, but as a MOC, it's splendid. I especially like the stance, with great weight distribution and pose. A seamless background would have been better for the photography, but overall I'm pretty impressed with this figure.

Narcissus

Fans of Alien, one of the best science fiction films of all time, will recognize this craft. This is the Narcissus, the shuttle craft/life boat of the Nostromo. The original was designed by Ron Cobb and built by Martin Bower and Phil Rae. This version was built by Sir Nadroj, and it's practically perfect. Despite it's simplistic shape, this model was not easy to build I'm sure, but I for one appreciate the effort, it's gorgeous.

Xylophone Of Terror

We all had one, but there's a dark secret to the child's xylophone (and all children's musical instruments). That secret is that no parent ever bought their child one of these! They're always from a friend without kids, an aunt or uncle without a clue or a neighbor with a grudge. And while we all thought we were making music what we were really making is parental aural trauma. But I do like this one by builder legoadam, mostly because it will only go "tack tack tack" and if you play too loud, it'll just fall apart.

Watch Me Pull A Person Out Of My Hat

Fun fact, I used to do a little magic as a hobby. It was mostly card and coin, and I still have a bunch of tricks in a cabinet. I was never as dapper or charismatic as this fabulous rabbit magician by Djokson. But with only three fingers and a thumb I have to doubt Lagomorpheus the Magnificent's ability to do a single hand shuffle.

Happy Birthday Brothers Brick!

I think it was around 2006-2007 when I discovered the larger AFOL community. One of the first sites that became a daily visit was The Brothers Brick. In 2009 started posting my first MOCs to Flickr, and when my Colbert Report was blogged by TBB I was honored and humbled. Shortly after that I attended my first BrickCon, where I met Andrew and Josh. They warmly welcomed me to the community and we were instant friends. Just over two years ago when I was tossing around the idea of starting my own blog Andrew was one of the biggest proponents and his wisdom helped shape BrickNerd in the early days. I still visit TBB every day, and I'm grateful to call all those guys (and girl) friends. Congratulations on a decade of LEGO nerdiness, love you guys!

The Force Meets Minions

I do enjoy a good mashup, and builder car_mp has brought together two things that needed to be united, Star Wars and Minions. Although, Luke would probably argue that learning from Yoda was difficult enough, now he speaks in nonsensical bursts and craves bananas? At least Lando probably never knew what the deal was so he didn't know it was getting worse.

First Order Stormtrooper

When I saw the teaser trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens and there was that glimpse of the new stormtroopers I had a surge of childhood course through my veins. It's a thrill that's indescribable, yet here I sit trying to come up with the words. I had a little taste of it this morning too, when I saw this delightful MOC by umamen. Suddenly I'm nine years old, and I want to save the galaxy. I want to jump around with a flashlight and make swooshing noises. I want to climb aboard a starship and jump to light speed. I want some Star Wars.

Struggling With Night Terrors

OK, perhaps I've been a little over Disney stimulated lately (Disneylated?) but from the thumbnail of this MOC I thought it was Winnie the Pooh being attacked by the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. All Disneycentric predispositions aside this creation is the thing of nightmares! Thanks a lot Karf, now I'm gonna have to sleep with the lights on.

Jive

By total happenstance I was listening to Say Yes by Wax Tailor when I stumbled on this fantastic MOC by simply bricking it and it was a perfect match. The sense of motion and fun here is excellent. Just makes you want to get up and dance!

Dream House

Move over Barbie, there's a new Dream House in town. I hope you're not in a hurry dear readers, because this stunning three story house by builder alanboar takes a little while to look at. A long while in fact because it's positively packed with detail and excellent building. Not only is each floor fully decked out, each has it's own decorating style. Bartholomew's Border Brewhouse

Here's a little MOC loaded with character and texture. Welcome to Bartholomew's Border Brewhouse by Aardwolf. I still haven't tried this building style yet, and may never, but I'm irresistibly drawn to it and don't even know what to call it. I saw in the comments on this MOC someone said "tilted timbers". And if that's not what it's called I'd like to propose it as a term. Who's with me?

Wonder Woman

This is truly another golden age of the comic book hero. While comic books themselves reigned supreme in the 50's, they've certainly had their ups and downs since then. But now all those heroes that kept our imaginations thrilled are making big screen appearances on a scale that would have scarcely been imagined just 20 years ago. These heroes are also enjoying a renaissance of public awareness and cultural significance that has nerds around the world overjoyed. And of course we're seeing an explosion of heroes in brick form, which makes me all kinds of happy. Like this awesome MOC of Wonder Woman by Tim Lydy, gorgeous.

M-6 Carnifex

The king of sci-fi prop weapons Nick Brick is back with another awesome MOC. This is the M-6 Carnifex hand cannon from Mass Effect 2. It features a moving trigger and a moving slide to simulate thermal clip ejection. I of course know nothing about the game, but I do dig a good prop, and this one looks amazing.

Anubis

So, you're recently deceased and mummified huh? Well congratulations! Next stop the afterlife, just as long as you can get there. Not to worry though, you've got protection. Meet Anubis, the jackal-headed god by builder dennis qiu. Now just gather up your belongings (and don't forget your kidneys in that jar over there) and make your way to the kingdom of the dead (and no line jumping).

Sprint Cars

Sprint car racing is pretty impressive to watch. They actually race them in a nearby town and I've been a couple times. The speed is fast, the track is small, the smell is pungent, the sound is loud and the crashes are spectacular. They are small too, you don't so much get in them as much as you "put them on". Speaking of small, check out these two in bricks by Lino M...perfect. 

Jaguar XK-SS

I'm not much of a car guy, but I do love a vintage roadster, and in the 50's Jaguar was one of the car makers doing it right. They were also big in the racing scene, and this 1957 beauty by rabidnovaracer was the combination of the two. When several unsold race cars were left over at the end of the race season, Jaguar converted them to street use. They must have been a thrill.
