Sure to get you wherever you need to be in the most convenient fashion whether you like it or not, so sometimes it's better just not to look!
Those of you who's faced the wrath of the great pirate LeChuck might recognize this face. That's right, it's Guybrush Threepwood, the main character of the amazing Lucasarts Monkey Island games, and owner of quite possibly the greatest name in adventure game history. We spent many happy hours (and a few frustrated ones) playing those games, and seeing this awesome bust by SuckMyBrick brings back a lot of memories.
Can you hear the horns in the distance? Fell the adrenaline in the air? That's right, it's time for the hunt. And the last thing you want to be hunting you is this lean, mean, killing machine by rockmonster2000. He is feared by all, worshiped by many, is a relic of anicent times, and has only ever been known by one name: the Harbinger of the Hunt.
I don't fish, or at least I haven't since I was a child. I also don't do boats, unless it's a Disney cruise ship. I also don't eat much fish (but I do enjoy a good fish & chips). So I'm at a loss to explain why I love this little fishing boat by builder Know Your Pieces. Perhaps it's because of the splendid color scheme and building techniques. Or maybe because it's built out of my favorite toy, I just don't know.
It's hard to resist the urge to put on some leathers, grab my helmet and hit the trail when I look at this marvelous dirt bike by ianying616. Then I remember I don't have leathers, a helmet (unless you count my stormtrooper helmet, does that count?) or anything resembling a motorcycle. I'll just admire this MOC, it's pretty rad.
One of the concepts of Pokemon is they are "pets" that you collect and care for (and then force to fight each other, go figure). But in my opinion there's actually only a handful that I think I'd enjoy having around. Pets give us companionship and unconditional love, at least that's the point I think. I wouldn't mind having a Pikachu around, they're pretty cool. And my personal favorite is Cubone, I have no idea why. And Eevee, brilliantly built by reticence here, seems like a pleasure to have around. But can you imagine a Mr. Mime hopping on the bed with you to watch TV? I'd be creeped out the whole time. And Magicarp is useless, your argument is invalid.
I love the retro-future look of this dashing young lady by builder Kingmarshy. Meet Miss Utopia, pioneer of the future, exploring the solar system with her trusty robotic companion, GD-801. They both look ready for adventure, and for the cover of a classic 50's sci-fi pulp novel or movie poster. Wherever it is, I want to follow that adventure.
Builder Zilmrud packs a whole lot of storytelling and callbacks in a very small space. It sort of reminds me of when Genie says "Phenomenal cosmic powers...itty bitty living space". All the major characters are represented here, in a wonderful display built for his wife. Nicely done sir, nicely done.
While I'm a purist when it comes to building, for animation I break all the "rules" all the time. We glue parts, drill them, cut them and modify them to make them work for the project, it's just practical to get the job done. I know it would make a lot of you cry to witness all that activity with tools and bricks in the same space, but here's a fascinating animation by BricksBrosProductions that has both, and as far as I can see, no bricks were harmed in the making, enjoy!
Back in the good ol' days of flight, every journey was a perilous and daring adventure that lead to new discoveries and innovation. There were no commercial flights with terrible airplane food (some might consider them to be lucky then) and aviation only existed in the minds of dreamers and builders. Tino Poutiainen honors these brave inventors that risked their lives in this wonderful depiction of a prototype airplane with details in all the right places.
So, I bought Voltron! My son and I put him together the other night. Took us about three hours; we both built an arm and a leg, then I 'supervised' the Black lion. Eye love the mix of organic and artificial features and iris-pect the intricate details that went into the body of this vision-ary creation. Ok, I might have to stop with the eye puns, if they get any cornea than this, everybody is going to lash out at me.
For as long as we've been building machines to go reasonably fast, there's been a select few who make them go unreasonably fast. And with the invention of the internal combustion engine, the speed (and the stakes) got even higher, and we've been fascinated since. Like this scene marvelously recreated by builder Pixeljunkie of 1929 Monoco Grand Prix featuring his beautiful Bugatti, the crowd loves it.
Take a good look at this landscape and tell me if there's anything that stands out? If you said the Killer Croc big fig used to create the hill then congratulations! You won absolutely nothing! (Unless you count knowledge which is the most valuable gift that I could give to you). It's MOCs like these that remind me why I love the Lego community so much. There are so many creative people out there and every Lego piece can be interpreted differently by each builder to come up with something amazing and unique. This temple by dzambito42 is a perfect example of this, and it just goes to show that all you need to create something truly mind-blowing is a little imagination.
Breaking Bad is one of my favorite shows of all time. Watching lowly chemistry teacher Walter White's transformation into the criminal mastermind Heisenberg was thrilling television. LEGO 7 made a fantastic MOC of Heisenberg at work. Lots of great details here, one of my favorites being the custom Golden Moth Chemical decal on the drum. It's best to stay out of his territory...
Builder M<0><0>DSWIM imagines the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast with a little less romance and a lot more machine oil. Meet Belle and the Beast, two mobile suits that are turning this story on it's head. I do have to wonder how it might be possible for beast to imprison her in his castle, I think she'd just kick his ass.
Many of us Star Wars nerds can agree that Solo was not the greatest movie of the franchise, however, polywen reminds us that it did bring some awesome new material to the table such as L3-37. With the sarcasm of an R2 unit, the excitement of a mouse droid, the body of K-2SO, and the charisma of a gonk droid, what's not to like? Ok, maybe that last part about the gonk droid is not totally accurate. Nonetheless I still believe that this character has a lot of potential for the future of Star Wars movies and who knows? Maybe now that she's part of the Millennium Falcon we might see a Star Wars spinoff movie where she goes on a rampage to free all the droids.
When traveling along classic Route 66 be sure to stop by Radiator Springs! I was fortunate enough to see this awesome recreation of the town from Pixar's classic Cars in person at BrickCon last year. Builder Keith Reed has faithfully recreated the entire town, from Mater's junk yard to the town hall, all the buildings are there. Need some tires? Stop in at Luigi's. Hungry? Head over to Flo's. You can spend an entire day here, you just need to get off the interstate.
Isn't it funny how sometimes a MOC takes on a life of it's own? You set out to build one thing, but through whatever magic the bricks get their way and you end up building something else. That's sort of the origin story of this brilliant AT-ACT by Ben Cossy. What started as a little Scarif scene evolved into this colossal minifig scale walker.
This entry into the 2018 Summer Joust by Grant Davis is one of those MOCs that keeps you looking. There's so many details, techniques and cool part combinations that you can stare at it for whole minutes. Grant promises a video later this week featuring construction techniques and how it was built, you can bet I'll be tuning in.
