Holy mashup! To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters, as well as the upcoming national Ghostbusters day (no really, it's Aug 28) builder ninbendo has created a transforming Ecto-1. This is some seriously ingenious engineering. In it's car mode, it is hardly detectable that there's anything different than the standard model. The giant ghost trap and PKE meter is pretty awesome too.
It's an amazing thing when phenomenal building, great photography and serious Photoshop chops all come together. I've been watching the progress on this piece by CASTOR-TROY for months, and I'm so excited to see it's not only done, but mindblowingly great.
This is one of those "out there" builds, but it's also pretty neat. This is based on Filmation's Ghostbusters, not to be confused with the movie we all know and love, and not to be confused with The Real Ghostbusters, the animated series based on the movie. This is the animated series based on the 70's Saturday morning show The Ghost Busters (which I remember, I'm old). It was a favorite of Orion Pax, and now he has his very own playset.
This is a remarkably clean and beautiful model of one of the powerhouses of the US Navy from builder legodrome. It's a perfect balance of detail and scale, with a nearly studless design. I especially like the back landing platform and the helicopter, perfect.
Ever see a picture or visit a place that brings you instantly back to a nostalgic memory from your youth? Well, for whatever reason, Dunholm Taverna took me right back to my days of playing Infinity Engine games like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale which I attribute to creating in me a love for all this medieval. The creator of this MOC, Wochenender, reminds us that not all castle creations need be castles, in fact some of the best entries into the genre are those that put us into the every day life of your average citizen.
I love when I'm scrolling through my Flickr feed and a model comes along that makes me seriously question "wait a minute, is that LEGO?" This mech from builder Moko is just such a model, and it's beautiful.
My good friend and fellow male exotic dancer Iain Heath as risen to the challenge I presented yesterday. Did I say risen to? I meant owned. He managed to take over my show.
Well played sir, well played.
I am Groot. I....Am Groot. I AM Groot. I am Groot.
I am Groot! I am Groot (PowerPig), I am Groot. I am GROOT.
I am...Groot.
“I am Groot”
The 80's were such a good time for movies. There were original stories, epic tales and imaginative filmmaking. Ladyhawke is a great example, and the inspiration for this phenomenal cathedral MOC by Pippo Zane. I strongly encourage you all to click through and check out many more pics (view in high-res, it's worth it) of this awesome structure and the occupants.
Join me with my special guests David Pagano and James Morr as we build LEGO 21110 Research Institute as well as LEGO Star Wars 75041 Vulture Droid. And as if that wasn't enough action, immediately following the build I will be doing a live ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Our good friend Josh at The Brothers Brick as called me out, and I will rise to the challenge. Building starts today at noon PST, with the dowsing happening around 2pm. Join us!
Featuring the RiGGED system from BrickForge, a visit to San Diego Comic-Con 2014 and 10242 Mini Cooper.
Apologies to the BBC and Top Gear :-)
This just happens to be one of my all-time favorite sci-fi vehicles from one of the all-time best concept artists Syd Mead. Builder Mad physicist totally nailed it, right down to the decals and fold up mandibles, awesome.
This beautiful and pose-able humanoid robot is from builder quý. There's some really cool and subtle building techniques here, with some excellent sculpted body forms and contours. The detailing implying it's mechanical nature is my favorite part, you would swear it's functional yet it's all just suggested.
Here's one to make you say "awww". Builder M<0><0>DSWIM built this MOC for his girlfriend to celebrate their first anniversary. It depicts him in an X-Wing Gundam suit and her in a Batwing Gundam suit. Nerd love is the best love, congrats you two.
Avast there! Builder Mark of Falworth's latest build depicts pretty much a worst case scenario for the Bluecoats, pirates attacking on one side, Redcoats on the other. You just have to wonder what happens when they both board and discover each other. Built to promote the LEGO War contest on Flickr.
So what do you do when you discover your battlefield trucks are sinking in mud and getting stuck? Simple, you add tank tracks to the back. This MOC by BeLgIuM ww2 bUiLdeR is an Opal truck with Maultier (mule) conversion. When I was a kid, we loved playing with little green army men. I can remember many protracted arguments over who got the half-track. There was just something so cool about a truck combined with a tank.
I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I love cheese. There's really not much better a meal for me than some delicious cheeses on a board, some fresh fruit and some sourdough (pardon me while my eyes roll back). So this latest offering from Bruce Lowell speaks to me on a deep, personal level, stomach deep that is.
I love it when I'm scrolling through my Flickr feed and a MOC comes up that just makes me inhale exaggeratedly with raised brows and bulging eyes (did I sufficiently paint that picture?) This one just did that. From builder The Deathly Halliwell comes the Monkey King, and it's a total work of art. There's so many things I love about this I don't know where to start, so I'll just continue to stare and invite you to do the same.
It takes care and skill to pack this much detail in a footprint this size. Many builders confuse detail as "more stuff" and that's simply not the case. Everything should have purpose and serve the MOC. This diorama by Cesbrick strikes an excellent balance between foliage, structures and equipment to make it super detailed, but not unnecessarily "busy".
Like most Americans, Tintin was virtually unknown to me until the Spielberg/Jackson film came out in 2011. I had seen images from time to time, but the books were scarce here and he had no following. But we're truly in the minority, and TinTin has a loyal following in the rest of the world (sorta like the soccer of comic characters). Builder Brickbaron is a fan though, and decided to celebrate his devotion with a interpretation of the cover for Land of Black Gold. The results speak for themselves.

Old LEGO magic still has its charms. We revisit Borgin and Burkes and Dumbledore’s office to compare how their buildings, curious objects, and magical creatures have changed across generations of Harry Potter sets.
